Some behind the scenes of Eva helping get Anna ready for show season.

The girls are involved with all aspects of their lambs care from bottle feeding, cleaning out the barn, helping on vaccination or ear tagging day. They help check them daily and if they want to take them to a show they are the ones responsible for getting them ready (with a little help from mum and dad).

We encourage the girls to spend time with them and practise holding them and build a relationship with their lamb.

Each to their own but I’m not one for handing a child a lamb on a halter and telling them to stand nice and hold it for a show. If they are going to be a “young handler” all the unseen is just as or even more important as that’s what truly makes them a good handler. I also think it comes across when they can truly answer questions from the judges from their own experience and not just rehearse some information.

Can’t believe this time last week we were preparing for Deer Show

It’s always a fun family day out for us but we are incredibly proud of the girls and all the effort they put in to preparing and showing their lambs and dogs. They even managed to get a few rosettes so were over the moon 😄

I came away with a 4th with Tigger the blue texel cross tup lamb (a huge favourite with many visitors this year!)

Eva got a 4th with Anna in orphan lamb, a 1st with Ted the sheepdog in young handlers and reserve champion with Ted in the dog show. She also had a go at showing Anna in the sheep young handlers for the first time.

Cara got a 1st with Ariel in orphan lamb and a 4th with Kiska (our husky mix) in young handlers in the dog show. She also had a go at showing Lucas our blue texel ram lamb in young handlers.

A special thanks goes to our lovely helpers Nell, Noah Hulme, Amy Horne, Jody Leil and Kirsteen Smith for your help trimming, bathing and loading sheep. You’re help is very much appreciated ✨
