Top tip: Tie one piece of kitchen roll around each locking nut in and out of your external filter. This way, you can do a quick daily visual check to see that your external filter pipes are not leaking.

Over time, locking nuts can work their way loose, check them regularly to avoid issues with leaks!

This tank belongs to one of our long-term happy fishkeepers! We visit every 8 weeks to clean the filter and give the tank a check over. Between visits, this fishkeeper keeps up with regular maintenance and keeps a diary of everything that is done.

I've enjoyed transforming this 40L BiOrb today ✨

The after photo was taken immediately after the clean, so the water is still clearing.

Although the tank arrived very green, the water quality was actually pretty good. The main issue here was excess light. The aquarium was positioned fairly close to a window (though not in direct sunlight) and the lights were being left on for extended periods.

After a thorough clean, water change, and lots of cyanobacteria removal, the tank was looking much improved 🌿

The lighting schedule has now been adjusted to a shorter photoperiod, and we've arranged regular maintenance with the customer to help keep things stable moving forward. For now, I’m holding off on using any treatments or remedies to see how the tank responds to the new light regime naturally.
