Classical Mile End Alpacas

Classical Mile End Alpacas Classical MileEnd Alpacas is an alpaca breeding and stud farm that runs between 170 and 200 alpacas in Devon.

Our farm has a strict bio-security policy with the whole farm perimeter fenced against wildlife, no contractors or visiting animals on farm, quarantine paddocks for sick animals and an absolute divide between the animal side of the farm and the outside world. We have a number of stud males whose bloodlines come from the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia, in white, fawn and black.

Priam II does it again at the Devon County show winning Supreme as intermediate light male. Priam II won here as well as a junior. He has an abundance of fleece with lovely soft handle and excellent phenotype. He is our last CME Centurion boy out of Rhea who is a Jaquinto daughter. Our CME Andante by Paris was champion white male as well. CME Capella by Jaquinto was also reserve champion light male standing right behind Priam II who took the championship. Rhea took the dam's progeny class with Rococco and Priam II whilst Ntherough took sire's progeny with Florinda, Rococco and a lovely white male from Caton called Wing Commander.

Lovely show in great weather, thank you Gary and Peter.

We threw all the alpacas out of the barn today to go and enjoy a bit of sunshine and best quality winter grass. They liked that. We had a go at selecting a show team as well which is pretty difficult as some of the juniors are still not completely dry. Managed to do a second pass with the juniors and almost there. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry so we are going to look at the intermediates and adults and force ourselves to make decisions. Trouble is things change when those fleeces REALLY dry out and stop looking a bit green at the edges. Hey ho. We will undoubtedly make some mistakes.

A nice chicken farmer came over yesterday and left with three adult males to join his other three alpacas guarding his flock. He has superior chickens laying blue eggs and dark brown speckled ones, posh eggs for Harrods and Waitrose. Very upbeat chap, sounds as if the chicken business is doing very well and as it is all computerised doesn't take that much time to manage either. I asked him whether he lounges around on a chaise longue for the rest of the day!
