🐶 Patient story 🐶

Daisy presented to us on a Saturday morning with a sudden onsett left fore lameness after having a bit too much running aroung the fields.

Emma, one of our vets, realised this was something serious and x-rayed her immediately only to find a distal comminuted fracture of the left radius and ulna (the bone was in lots of pieces and close to the wrist). A splint was applied to provide stabilisation over the weekend and on the Tuesday another of our vets, Nikki who has a postgraduated certificate in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, repaired the fracture using a plate.

Because the fracture was so close to the joint with lots of fragments involved and in Daisy's mind she wasnt poorly at all we opted to place a splint to aid in recovery and support her through the process.

This meant that Daisy needed a bandage change every 5-7days for the following few weeks. Daisy and her owners were absolutely super, Daisy would come tail wagging, just strolling through the back, hopping up onto the prep room table only after her bed had been put in postition and laying down her side ready for the bandage to be changed. Because Daisy had so many bandage changes the nurses had to get very creative with the choices of bandage art. 6 weeks later Daisy has been signed off - she is fully weight bearing and back to her playful antics at home. we will miss seeing Daisy so reguarly but are so happy to see her back to herself.

It’s National Assistance Dog day today.

Assistance dogs improve lives each and every day carrying out vital tasks and providing companionship.

This includes guide dogs, hearing dogs, medical alert dogs and therapy dogs who carry out a wide range of tasks and skills. They are highly trained and can provide very specialised help. It’s very important not to distract these dogs whilst they work however lovely they are!

So here’s a shout out to all our canine friends who help each and every day!

Drop us a picture of your pet bunnies in the comments! Did you know:

🐰 Rabbits are highly sociable and need companionship from other rabbits
🐰 Rabbits live around 8 to 12 years
🐰 Rabbits need lots of space, a hutch is not enough!
🐰 Feeding hay should be the basis of a rabbit’s diet with some pellets and fresh greens.
🐰 Vaccinating your rabbit keeps them safe from myxomatosis and VHD both deadly diseases!
