Meet sweet Dilly 😍

I visited Dilly for a nail clip after she’d had a previous bad experience. Understandably, she was worried about having her paws handled.

This is the second visit I’ve done for Dilly.

The first thing she did? She greeted me with a wagging tail and got lots of belly rubs from me. ❤️

That shows me we’ve already started building trust.

We took everything at Dilly’s pace. Her back nails? She was an absolute superstar.

Her front paws were still a little more worrying for her, so we slowed things down, gave her plenty of breaks, celebrated every little success and, of course, rewarded her with lots of tasty treats.

For some dogs, nail clipping isn’t just about trimming nails. Each visit helps build confidence, making the next appointment that little bit easier.

I’m so proud of how well Dilly did, and I can’t wait to see her confidence continue to grow. 🥰

As a Registered Advanced Veterinary Nurse I can bring years of clinical and hands-on experience into your own home, helping to make routine care less stressful for your pet.

This means someone trained to understand animal health, behaviour and safe & stress-free handling. It also means I know when something isn’t quite right, when to refer you to the vet or when an emergency happens, I can respond quickly and effectively.

You have someone with additional insurance and with continued CPD to ensure I have the most update knowledge and skills to care for your pet.

Many of the appointments I can offer, should only be offered by a trained veterinary professional.

So whether you need medication support, a**l gland expression, dental health checks or ‘just’ holiday drop-in visits, I can provide these in the comfort of your own home. Saving your pet the stress of a car journey or busy waiting rooms.

One of the questions I get asked is, "How often should I be cleaning my dogs ears?"

The answer is... it depends! Every dog is different.

Some dogs naturally produce more wax than others and benefit from regular maintenance ear cleaning of every few weeks. Others may hardly ever need their ears cleaned at all.

Your dog's lifestyle also plays a part. Dogs who love swimming, rolling in muddy puddles or spending lots of time outdoors may need their ears cleaned more often.

It's also worth remembering that more isn't always better. Healthy ears are surprisingly good at keeping themselves clean, and cleaning them too frequently can sometimes cause irritation.

So, what should you look out for?

Healthy ears should be:
🐾 Clean and pale pink
🐾 Free from unpleasant smells
🐾 Comfortable when touched
🐾 Free from excessive wax or discharge

Things to look out for:
❗ A bad smell
❗ Redness or swelling
❗ Thick discharge
❗ Frequent head shaking or scratching
❗ Your dog seems uncomfortable when you touch their ears

If you notice any of these, book an appointment with your vet. These signs could indicate an ear infection or another underlying problem that needs medical treatment.

As a Registered Advanced Veterinary Nurse, I can provide routine maintenance ear cleaning to help keep healthy ears clean. If your dog requires medicated ear treatment, this can also be provided with a veterinary referral from your vet.

Regular ear checks can help spot problems early, and if you're ever unsure whether your dog's ears need cleaning, I'm always happy to have a chat.

This is the face of a very brave spaniel, and I am a super proud Vet Nurse! Last time I could barely touch Chester's feet.

Chester is still only a puppy, although he is super smart! One negative experience at his age can mean grooming and nail clipping could be a challenge for the rest of his life. So rather than perfection, we are focusing on making every session a positive experience.

This visit started with a little tidy-up of his trousers and feathers, taking it all at his pace.

He even allowed me to trim his little grinch feet, with plenty of praise and patience, and an entire tube of liver paste! This was incredible! I even clipped a couple of nails that needed doing the most.

Could I have carried on? Probably. But pushing him past his comfort zone would have undone all the hard work and confidence and made grooming next time even harder.

Instead, Chester finished on a high. I’m so incredibly proud of him!

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, I know that looking after our pets isn’t just about getting the job done. It’s about creating positive experiences that build confidence for the future.

Earlier in the week, I swapped my usual morning nursing in veterinary practice for something a little different.

I attended a local networking event at the amazing Exotic Zoo in Telford! 🦎🐐🦜

As part of our introductions, we were asked, "If you were an animal, what would you be?"

I chose a working breed dog.

Loyal. Driven. Full of energy. Always happiest when I have a job to do and people & animals to look after. 🐕

Afterwards, we were treated to a private tour of the zoo. I was in my element! Days like this remind me why I love working with animals.

Thank you to Fran and everyone at Exotic Zoo for such a fantastic morning. I left feeling inspired, energised and with far too many photos and videos to choose from! 📸

🐱 Routine matters so much to cats. They are creatures of habit. Their home is their safe place, and even small changes to their routine can sometimes cause them a lot of stress.

Before I started caring for one of my lovely regular cat clients, her owners had used a cattery while they were away.
Although she was well looked after, she found being away from home so stressful that she barely ate and lost weight during her stay.

Since then, I've been visiting her at home instead.

She now gets to stay in the environment she knows and loves, sleep in her favourite spots, eat her usual meals, and enjoys lot of fuss. The difference is incredible. She's so much more relaxed, she's eating well, and her owners can go away knowing she's happy and comfortable.

Every cat is different. Some cats settle well in a cattery, while others are much happier staying in their own home with someone visiting them.

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, every visit also includes a basic health check, so if I notice anything out of the ordinary while you're away, I can let you know straight away.

I'm Beth, the vet nruse behind Beth's Pawfect Pet Services.

I'm a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with 10 years of experience working in practice. Alongside my full-time role, I provide professional pet care services in the comfort of your pet's own home across Telford and the surrounding areas.

I started Beth's Pawfect Pet Services because I wanted to bridge the gap between the veterinary practice and home. I know that many pets find travelling or visiting the vets stressful, and some owners simply need a little extra support with their pet's healthcare.

Did you know pets can continue to eat even when they have mouth pain? As a vet nurse, I see this all the time. Instead there may be subtle signs such as chewing on one side or drooling.

Your pet should have a dental check up every 6 months by a veterinary professional to assess their mouth and teeth, checking for tartar, fractures, inflammation or growths.
Regular check ups ensure a problem is identified and dealt with quickly.

I offer dental check ups in your own home and can help with toothbrushing to help keep your pets mouth healthy.

💧🌞 How to keep your pets hydrated in hot weather

With the warm weather we've been enjoying recently, it's more important than ever to make sure our pets stay well hydrated.

Just like us, pets can become dehydrated quickly, especially if they're exercising, travelling or just sunbathing.

Here are some easy ways to encourage them to increase their fluid intake:

🥣 Add water, a pet-safe broth or goat’s milk to their usual food.
🧊 Make homemade ice lollies using diluted pet-safe broth, goat's milk or their favourite wet food blended with water
🍉 Offer pet-safe fruits such as watermelon (seedless) as an occasional treat
🚰 Place several water bowls around the house and garden, and refresh them regularly
❄️ Add a few ice cubes to their water bowl if they enjoy them
🐾 Take plenty of fresh water with you on walks

Signs of dehydration can include:
⚠️ Dry or tacky gums
⚠️ Sunken eyes
⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Loss of skin elasticity

If you think your pet is becoming dehydrated or showing signs of heatstroke, call your vet immediately.
