🚗🐾 A very exciting milestone for Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services…

My new car signs have arrived and I couldn’t be happier with how they look! 💚

Seeing my business name on the side of my car makes everything feel a little more real. What started as an idea has grown into a business I’m incredibly proud of, and I genuinely couldn’t have done it without the support of my wonderful clients, friends, family and followers.

The signs aren’t just about advertising. They also help clients recognise me when I arrive for visits and give reassurance that a professional, insured pet care provider is at their door.

I’m also excited to share that Beth’s Pawfect Pet Services is now officially on Google! 🎉

If I’ve cared for your pets and you’ve been happy with my service, I would be incredibly grateful if you could take a couple of minutes to leave me a Google review. As a small business, reviews make a huge difference and help other pet owners find and trust my services.

Thank you for supporting my small business and helping it grow. Every booking, recommendation, review, like, comment and share means the world 💚

🐾 Not my usual clientele this week… 🐦

While I’m currently caring for Max the cat, I’m also feeding his feathered friends while his owners are away!

It got me thinking that many people assume pet sitting is simply popping in to feed a pet and leaving again. In reality, it’s often so much more than that.

Alongside caring for your pets, I can also:
🏡 Open and close curtains
📬 Bring in post and parcels
💡 Turn on/off lights where appropriate
🌱 Water indoor plants
🚨 Keep an eye on the property
💚 Let you know if I notice anything unusual

Having someone regularly visiting your home not only keeps your pets in their normal routine, but also provides reassurance that everything at home is being looked after while you’re away.

Whether it’s cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, chickens, pheasants or something a little more unusual, my aim is always the same. To care for your animals and give you complete peace of mind while you’re not there.

And yes… the pheasants have been keeping a close eye on me to make sure I’m doing a good job! 🐦😆

FOUND A BABY BIRD? 🤔🐣🐦‍⬛
If you’ve found a young bird on the ground and aren’t sure whether it should be there or not try following our handy flow chart to try and work out whether the bird should be picked up and taken to a rescue centre or not!

At this time of year many species of fledgling birds will spend the first few days out of the nest just bobbing around trying to fly as not all birds can fly straight away. Therefore, many will be sat around on the floor looking a little lost. However, in most cases this is completely normal and they need to be left alone. The parents will be attending to them still and although being on the ground may bring dangers with it, these youngsters need to learn to fly, forage, and defend themselves.

Always call your local rescue centre if you are unsure, before completely removing an animal from its location, and before taking any animal to them just to ensure this is the right option for the specific species involved. A healthy animal should not be taken into a rescue unless it really has to, even if there are potential dangers. Sadly there are dangers everywhere and if every rescue was to take in animals because something might happen there would be very few fledglings in the wild.

Tick season is definitely here 🕷️🐾

After walks, especially through long grass or woodland areas, it’s a good idea to check your pets for ticks.

Common places to look:
🐈 Around the ears
🐕 Under collars
🐾 Armpits
🐱 Between toes
🐶 Groin area

Removing ticks promptly helps reduce irritation and disease risk.

However, if you ever notice redness, swelling, or your pet seems unwell after a tick bite, speak to your vet.

Have you found more ticks than usual this season?

A while ago I had the lovely opportunity to visit a local nursery/pre-school and talk to the children about being a veterinary nurse 🐾 🩺

I took a stuffed dog and we explored what vet nurses do when animals come into the vets to be checked. The children got to:
🐾 dress up in a scrub top and surgical hat
🐾 listen to their own hearts with the stethoscope
🐾 have a go at clipping the stuffed dogs 'nails'
🐾 give a pretend injection
🐾 take the stuffed dogs temperature
🐾 scan the dog to see if he had a microchip

They all embraced it, had lots of questions, lots of laughs and I'm sure there were some future vets and vet nurses in the room! 😊

I love to share what I do and I hope I have planted the seed for them to think about working with animals in the future. ❤️🐶

Ever noticed your dog scooting or suddenly smelling a bit “fishy”? 🐟

You might have heard of a**l glands but aren’t quite sure what they are or when they need attention.

A**l glands are small glands near your dogs back end, which are normally expressed naturally when your dog passes faeces and has a strong ‘fishy’ smell. They allow dogs to mark their territory and communicate with others.

Sometimes they can become full or uncomfortable. Some dogs may need them expressed manually regularly, while others may just need it one off.

Signs they may need emptying are:
🐾 Scooting
🐾 Excessively licking their back end
🐾 Strong ‘fishy’ smell
🐾 Restless or discomfort when sitting
🐾 Spinning and biting at the tail base

A**l gland expression is a routine procedure and only takes a couple of minutes but can take longer if the contents has become thickened.

If you are ever unsure whether your dog is uncomfortable, it’s always best to get them checked by a trained professional rather than waiting for it to worsen. 🐶

I spent some time last week at a couple of local business networking events, and it was really lovely meeting other local business owners ☕🐾

Running a small business alongside full-time veterinary nursing can feel quite challenging at times, so it’s nice to have a cup of tea and connect with others who run their own business.

I had some lovely conversations about pets, supporting owners in our area and finding out what other local businesses do.

If you’re a local pet owner or business owner and we cross paths, say hello 👋🐶

Spending time with Alfie has been so lovely 🥰 She has been enjoying plenty of fuss, grooming and attention while her owners are away 🐈

I love being able to build a bond with the pets I care for. It’s much more than just a drop-in visit ❤️ it’s so important to me that your pet feels safe, relaxed and loved in their own home while you’re away 🏡

Ruby was nice and cosy when I did drop in visits while their owner was on holiday.
