You may remember the roe fawns we introduced to you a few months ago... well they have been released🦌💕

Last month we opened the gate on their paddock for them to take their first steps back into the wild! Deer cope poorly with change so we offer a soft release in order to reduce any stress and allow them to leave at their own pace. This means we will continue to back-up feed them until they naturally stop returning. In the meantime we will continually put up camera traps, so we can monitor their movement and ensure their transition is smooth while reducing their contact with humans.

Meatloaf, weighing over 11kg, absolutely loves an afternoon treat!
He was found wandering round a member of publics garden last weeks after he made a great escape from his home! Thankfully, they quickly secured him in their greenhouse and called us to help. We were able to transfer him to us and he will soon move to a specialised collection!

This sleepy juvenile dormouse was discovered on a roadside being pecked at by birds. Thankfully, he was uninjured- just underweight at only 10 grams, too small to survive hibernation without intervention.

After a couple of months in care, his weight has more than doubled! Now at a healthy 24 grams, he’s begun hibernating, as shown in the first photo. He’ll remain with us through the winter to ensure he sleeps safely, and in spring he’ll be ready to return to the wild where he belongs.

Weekly pupdate! Who's your favourite?🦭

It’s 2pm in our intensive care unit, aka the afternoon feed. You may notice some seals are on less amounts of fish. This is because they often arrive with us, underweight and starved. For the first 3-4 days we tube feed rehydration fluids and ‘fish soup’ until they are stable enough to digest whole fish. Then the amount of fish is increased very gradually in order to prevent upset tummies!

And then Björk.. she’s just Björk! Having only just learnt to eat for herself and fighting off a nasty pox infection (a viral skin disease she contracted pre admission), she’s still figuring out how to eat in the dog bed like the rest but we know she’ll get there soon 😌

🙏SHREDDED PAPER APPEAL🙏

It's the time of year where the number of hedgehogs in our care is significantly increasing and therefore we are in desperate need of shredded paper! We use this for their bedding to keep them nice and cosy.

If do want to donate, we have a yellow donation bin outside our gates, or our opening hours are 8am - 9pm, Mon - Sun. Any donations of shredded paper would be greatly appreciated💕

Today, we pause to remember the immense sacrifices made by our inspectors during the First World War 🌹

As we reflect on their dedication to rescuing and caring for the animals caught in the conflict, we also pay tribute to the thousands of animals who died on various fronts.
