🐱 “But my cat grooms itself!” 😺
Yes, they do! And they’re pretty good at it too. 😂
But did you know there are around 10.5 million pet cats in the UK — almost as many as dogs — yet professional grooming is still something we mostly associate with dogs? 🐶🐱 (PDSA)
There is also evidence that cats’ ability to groom themselves can decline with age. Research has found that older cats tend to spend less time grooming themselves, which can contribute to coat and self-care problems.
Regular grooming can help to:
Remove loose, shedding fur
Prevent painful mats and tangles
Keep the coat healthy and comfortable
Spot changes in the skin or coat early
Help older cats who can’t groom themselves as easily
Get kittens used to being handled and groomed
And there’s another big benefit I see all the time…
Cats can actually become much more comfortable with grooming when it’s introduced gently and regularly. ❤️
