Jacques Mones-Maury tackling a wet Sulby Bridge on the Isle of Man while his riding mechanic pumps up the fuel pressure on their Bugatti Type 13. A team of three Bugattis were entered under licence by Crossley for the 1922 Tourist Trophy in the 1,500 cc class. After six laps of the 37-miles mountain course Mones-Maury finished in third place in class behind a pair of Talbot-Darracqs

A couple of photos taken at Castle Combe circuit during one of the special stages of the 1983 RAC Rally.
The first is Michele Mouton/Fabrizia Pons in their Audi Quattro. They finished equal third on the stage but were to crash out during stage 20 at Hamsterley.
The second picture is the Triumph TR7 V8 of Charles Golding and John Porter, 33rd at Castle Combe. Engine failure caused their retirement on stage 12 at Harewood

These are a couple of photos I took at the 1989 Portuguese Grand Prix. The first one is race winner Gerhard Berger during practice in his Ferrari which was taken from the marshal post/press photography area - I approached it and nobody stopped me so spent the practice session there.
The second is from inside the Ferrari garage which again was surprisingly easy to wander into. I imagine things are very different these days!

One of my own pictures for a change today, from the days when you could get close to a circuit and didn't have to look through big fencing. This is Richard Dunham in his Alvis Speed 20 special at Silverstone, possibly in 1983. Richard was always a very rapid driver in this car which his father CGH Dunham built to race at Brooklands in the 1930s.

shouldn't have started reading this, I've got loads to do today and what started as a quick look through has turned into an hour flying by. Already enjoying it more than the previous 'F1 Retro 1970' and I loved that book
