🐾 This little cutie is just 4 months old! 😍
As you can see from the **before** photo, she was already carrying a lot of coat, and her owner was keen for her to have an all-over trim. I completely understood why! We were in the middle of yet another heatwave, and that's a lot of fluff for such a little pup. It also becomes much harder to keep on top of at home, and the last thing we want is for that beautiful coat to become matted.
What many people don't realise is that groomers don't have any magic tricks up our hairy sleeves when it comes to getting puppies to stand still! Grooming is a skill that dogs have to learn, just like walking nicely on a lead or coming back when called. It takes time, patience and lots of positive experiences.
Trying to do too much, too soon can overwhelm a puppy and create a lifelong fear of grooming.
Thankfully, this little girl was incredibly laid-back and confident, and she'd already had a great introduction to grooming with her breeder. Because of that, I was able to give her a gentle all-over tidy, although we left her face for another day. She was still very wriggly (as most puppies are!), and when you're working with very sharp equipment, safety always comes first.
I'd much rather send a puppy home with a slightly untidy haircut than risk them being physically injured or losing their confidence.
Puppy grooms aren't about perfection—they're about building trust, confidence and good grooming habits that will last a lifetime. The pretty haircut will come... we just don't want to rush the process. ❤️🐶
