Hello! Welcome to AngloTropica. For those who are new to this idea and haven't yet met me... Anglotropica is the start of a journey to provide Affordable aquatics solutions for everybody and hope to become a leading name in the Aquatics community nationwide whilst maintaining a community driven shopfront that will with hope become a memorable asset to the town in years to come.
The idea isn't just your usual Tropical fish and aquatics shop. What makes this the special Community driven idea is quite simply this.
We localise our business to the people of Suffolk... by stocking our tanks with tropical fish from all over the world, bred solely by Hobbyist Keepers and licensed breeders in Suffolk. Supporting local small businesses and keeping the economy within our county as much as possible, as our towns and villages in our towns borders are thriving with some fantastic fish aswell as an immense local knowledge of the trade.
Secondly, we want to work with local schools, colleges and organisations to offer a volunteering space with opportunity for future paid work for GCSE and Students to do there Work experience placements and learn not only about the trade and a step forward to integrating themselves further in life but to learn about our Wild Suffolk and the fantastic history and ecology of the place we come from aswell as the wider conservation of our freshwater and wild places worldwide... also to scrub out the grey area between the pet trade in fish and conservation with the possibilities of them dipping there toes into a new hobby. I Hope for this shop to become an central information hub for local projects, charities and organisations to operate from so we can all work hand in hand to organise projects and events to get our kids out doing something beneficial for there social development. The idea here is to essentially become a central hub for everybody to operate from together , hand in hand as a community .
So why is this idea important to me ? I love my home, Suffolk. This is a homegrown idea from Suffolk, for Suffolk by the people of Suffolk. In a world where technology has taken over, kids are raised with Ipads, computers and phones... we have naturally raised a more reserved and anxious generation. Behind closed doors, there is a lot of anxious kids out there who aren't comfortable enough to leave the comforts and safety of there homes but absolutley love fish. Most people who have been in this trade for years will tell you it's a dying business but I only see this as failure to adapt to the times and stay relevant with future generations. I hope to be able to bridge the gap between young and old and hopefully be able to utilise my business as a tool to get the kids out and learning with the possibilities of finding a new direction in life, seeing our Wild Suffolk first hand . Keeping a pet is a massive responsibility and I believe fish can be a fantastic way to subtly educate about the fundamental basics of life's responsibilities .
The idea is not only to create this space... our wild Suffolk is in danger, yet just on your doorstep there are hidden biomes somewhat comparative to the rainforests or tropical wooded areas aswell as Idyllic stretches of fantastic coastline and endless green pastures. Only if you go outside and look you will find a hidden world of fantastic heritage, history and landscapes. I hope to bring in other local organisations so we can arrange events and projects to combat the upkeep of our Wild Suffolk and show people how beautiful our natural spaces really are.
In a nutshell, affordable aquatics solutions for everybody in a hobby that can be unwelcoming with ever rising costs with brands and such and a community driven shopfront suited for everyone in the town whether you like fish or not.
With myself working towards a future degree in Limnology and aquatics biology and venturing to places like the Amazon on a research vessel in January in hope to discover new species of fish , I have two standing business partners on the side with a combined 30 years experience in the Fish trade widespread... so when I am ready to make the jump, you will be guaranteed a quality and trusted service.
So what now? Whilst I work in the background, establishing my idea and building up a network of contacts, I'm running a Rehoming and rescue service weekly for those who need it. Rehoming fish across the county and utilising them toward this community idea and ultimately putting them in a better place. I welcome all fish types and all tank sizes when it comes to rescues and donations.
To anything that can't be donated, a cash price is always offered as we are always buying new and second hand stock to sell. If you have any fish you would like to part with, those who can't be donated will also be offered at a cash price always.
If you love fish, in any respect... you don't have to keep them. Or love our home Suffolk... or if you're a Hobbyist keeper, breeder or spend your weekends on the banks ... I'd love to talk to you. I'm on a fact finding mission to establish a vast network of trusted wholesalers, breeders and contacts to essentially provide a better outcome which will benefit everybody in the community and hopefully deliver a shopfront that'll be tuly ingrained in the hearts and memories of Stowmarkets people.
Watch this wholesome idea grow from humble beginings to this amazing community asset I am working tirelessly hard to provide.
