Central Scotland's Canine Massage Clinic offers Clinical Canine Massage. This is a vet-approved complementary therapy that uses Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports Massage together with Myofascial Release and Advanced Canine Anatomy to produce a drug-free and holistic treatment designed to ease the pain of a muscular or soft tissue injury, promote rehabilitation, improve flexibility and mobiltiy, whil

e benefitting the overall health and well-being of your dog. Clinical Canine Massage is suitable for all types of dogs: sports, service and pets, it is especially beneficial for old dogs. Canine Massage Therapy also supports dogs with orthopaedic issues, like Hip Dysplasia, Luxating Patella and Arthritis, by improving the health and flexibility of muscles and tendons that have to work harder due to a joint weakness. Dogs hide their pain, they don't want to be seen as the week member of the pack, so keep an eye out for the subtle signs which can manifest as:
• Limping, unable to fully weight bear on one or more legs
• Having difficulty jumping on / off the sofa or into the car
• Character changes, grumpy with people or dogs
• Appearing to age overnight
• Problems getting up or lying down
• No longer keen to go for a walk
• Performance issues, eg dropping poles, lack of enthusiasm

Thank you St Vigean for making the first of this year's Beginner's Guide to Canine Massage such a fabulous day! I'm always amazed at the beautiful dogs that come along and bring their interested and caring owners. Everyone and the dogs got on well but I do think I bored the wee sh*tzu who snored epically throughout! 🤣 Catch the video at full volume if you can! 🤫 Thank you to Rachel from Dream Dogs - dog training for making it possible even though you felt rotten and thank you as well to Katherine from Kanine Konnections - Clinical Canine Massage for helping to keep everyone in the right place!

The next events will be held at Carstairs, Lanarkshire with the help of Fiona at Rockstar Canines Scotland on the 19th April and at Kinbuck, near Dunblane, on the 10th May. Shout out if you would like a spot or would like to host one in your area.

Interesting... does anyone have any experience?

In a 6-week head-to-head trial, a turmeric extract outperformed glucosamine + chondroitin. Dogs showed less pain and limping, better joint movement and weight-bearing, and improved activity and quality of life. Both helped, but turmeric consistently delivered stronger results.

This wasn’t a combo, it was a direct comparison: turmeric vs glucosamine + chondroitin.

Key insight: managing pain and protecting cartilage are not the same. Most joint supplements aim to support cartilage, not reduce pain. This study highlights the need for both approaches if you actually want to improve how dogs feel and move.

🐾 Did You Know? Hind Limb Issues Can Lead to Shoulder Pain! 🐾

If your dog has a hind limb condition—like hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament injury, or lumbosacral disease—you might notice them getting sore in their shoulders, neck, or front legs. But why does this happen?

When a dog’s back legs are painful or weak, they naturally shift more weight forward. This means their shoulders and forelimbs have to work extra hard, leading to tired, overworked muscles and even more discomfort.

✨ Key takeaway: Supporting your dog’s whole body—especially when they have an orthopaedic issue—can help prevent secondary muscle pain and keep them moving comfortably.
