Some days Tail & Tuck looks like full sewing days and some days it’s squeezing in one little project between housework and everything else! Today’s make was a cosy bee-print triangular hut made from the last scraps of this fabric šŸ

Sewing time has been a bit limited lately but customer orders will always come first and are always prioritised and completed on time.

Small business life definitely isn’t always glamorous but I still love creating things for ratties whenever I can.

Tail & Tuck product development update…One of my lovely customers has a group of very talented hammock destroyers who completely demolished one of my corner huts a few weeks ago 😭

If I can, I often try to throw in free scrap fleece and enrichment pieces to my orders to help my customer’s hammocks last as long as possible but I started experimenting with a little fleece ā€œBusy Pomā€ attachment — a simple enrichment distraction designed to give busy rats something else to fidget with and chew. And so far, the test hammock is STILL mostly intact! 😃

It’s definitely early testing and absolutely not chew proof but I’d love to keep trialling the idea with more rats. For the next few orders, I’m happy to include free Busy Pom attachments for anyone willing to test it for me and report back with feedback šŸ™

As always, I love trying to create products that aren’t just cosy but actually designed with real rat behaviour in mind.

Life has been a bit full-on the last few days (bank holiday, mum life, car stuff), so no sewing time sadly but I did manage to pick up something very exciting…

A Double Critter Nation — if you know, you know šŸ˜† Hoping to get this set up for the boys this weekend, just waiting for Perspex to arrive. Already planning ALL the hammocks…obviously šŸ¤”

Not mass produced. Not made by someone who’s never owned rats. Every set I make is handmade by me with my own boys in mind so comfort, safety and real rat behaviour are always considered.

If you’d like to order a cosy set, send me a message and let’s design your mischief’s custom set ā˜ŗļø

Forrest is currently tucked into his favourite spot beside me, where he belongs. He’s adjusting to a change in the mischief hierarchy after the younger lads have knocked him down a peg or two. Age is catching up with him a little, his legs aren’t quite what they were and he’s thrown quite a few dramatic tantrums along the way 😬

But he’s still my baby and always will be my handsome alpha boy, no matter what 🄰

Another idea to test…My customer’s boys destroyed this exact hammock before…so we’re trying something new. I’ve added a removable ceiling pom-pom plus saver pad to see if it redirects chewing and helps it last longer….sometimes you have to outsmart tiny furry demolition teams šŸ˜‚

I’ll report back with the verdict.

Testing a new idea with one of my lovely customers šŸ˜ I hate to see anything wasted so I’m always thinking of ways to use up scraps.…a reusable ā€˜Hammock Saver Pad’ made from fabric scraps to help distract little chewers and protect hammocks.

Made to pop inside hammocks for extra comfort, enrichment and hopefully save the expensive bit from tiny teeth!

Do you think something like this would be helpful for your rats? Let me know in the comments šŸ‘‡
