Ronnie’s story 🐾

TRIGGER WARNING: Graphic image of surgery posted in comments.

Ronnie the Wonder Dog! ⭐ Nine year old Springer Spaniel Ronnie came in to see us for a routine booster vaccination, and during a thorough general health check, our vet Luke could feel a mass in his abdomen.

Ronnie was booked in for an abdominal ultrasound with Luke for further investigation, and unfortunately a very large mass was discovered, occupying almost the whole of his abdomen. It was necessary to send Ronnie for a CT scan to see if the origin of the mass could be determined, but even after a CT scan there were no definitive answers.

We were unsure if Ronnie’s mass would be operable or not, but it was decided with his lovely owners that we would try, knowing that a difficult decision may have to be made during surgery if it was not possible.

We enlisted the help of Andre at SAS - Small Animal Surgery; and after careful assessment, manipulation and surgery, amazingly, Ronnie’s huge mass was able to be removed. The team weighed the mass post-operatively and it was a massive 3.7kg!

Ronnie’s recovery has been nothing short of astounding; he bounced back incredibly quickly and was soon back to his happy, hungry self. We are so proud of him and are so pleased that handsome Ronnie and his family have been given more time for lots of adventures together 🧡

Best of luck to Louie & Katy at Crufts today! We are all cheering you on 🧡🙌🏻

✨ Veterinary Surgeon Spotlight ✨

We are very lucky to have our very own tooth fairy, Dr. Sara Levy DVM GPCert (SADen&OS) MSc MRCVS as part of the Little Hoppers team; Sara is responsible for the advanced dental care that we offer across all our clinics 🪥 🦷

Sara holds a Certificate in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery, and is equipped to provide advanced dental care such as restorations and maxillofacial repair (e.g fractures) Sara is part of both the BVDA (British Veterinary Dental Society) and the EVDF (European Veterinary Dental Foundation). Sara also takes referrals across the South East for dental surgery. 🐾

When your pet comes for a dental procedure at Little Hoppers, Sara performs a COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment) in all her patients. This procedure includes:

🦷 Scaling of all teeth
🦷 A thorough dental examination to identify periodontal disease
🦷 Full mouth dental radiography (40-60% of dental pathologies cannot be seen above the gum line, e.g. periapical/root abscesses or granulomas, fractured roots, reabsorbed roots, retained roots)
🦷 Intravenous fluid therapy: gold standard for any procedure lasting longer than 30 minutes or for older patients. This helps to maintain blood pressure and organ function throughout the procedure and speeds up recovery afterwards.
🦷 Local anaesthetic blocks – an extra measure of analgesia to make sure your pet does not feel pain and has a comfortable recovery. Local blocks also allow the general anaesthesia to be low and stable, as your pet does not feel any discomfort during extractions
🦷 Extractions as necessary – these can be simple/closed extractions, or surgical/open extractions where a gingival flap is created to remove alveolar bone, retrieve the root without breaking it and then suture the gingival flap in place.
🦷 Post-operative analgesia and at least 2 post-operative checks with a veterinary surgeon.

Further details on our procedures and pricing can be found on our website: https://www.littlehoppersvets.co.uk/prices but please give us a call with any dental enquiries and the team will be more than happy to help! 🐶🧡🐱

Unfortunately we had a black kitten brought into us last night that had been involved in a traffic collision near Bumbles garden centre (Cranbrook Road) and sadly had passed away. Not microchipped but if anyone thinks they might be missing this little one please do get in touch. Thank you to the kind people that stopped to collect ❤️
