That's a big dog.. I mean fish!! 😅
A goldfish the size of a golden retriever was reeled in from a French lake and the internet lost it. Meet Carrot, the 67 pound bright orange monster fish that makes your childhood pet look like a tiny snack. Caught in 2022 by British angler Andy Hackett, Carrot is officially the largest goldfish ever recorded.
Yes, this giant really is a goldfish. Over 20 years ago it was released into the lake where it grew and grew until it became a living legend. For two decades, Carrot avoided being caught, lurking beneath the surface like some glowing underwater dragon. When Andy finally hooked it, the struggle was so epic that the catch instantly became worldwide news.
Here is the wild part. Goldfish are notorious escape artists. When people dump them into lakes or rivers, they do not stay small and cute. With enough food and space, they can balloon to insane sizes. Carrot is the ultimate example, tipping the scales at the weight of a small child. Scientists warn that goldfish like this can even become invasive, tearing up habitats and outcompeting native species.
But Carrot’s story has a wholesome twist. After snapping photos, Andy released the big orange legend back into the water. So yes, Carrot is still out there swimming, glowing like a neon pumpkin beneath the surface, ready to give future anglers the surprise of their lives.
Fun fact time. Regular pet goldfish usually weigh just a few ounces, but under the right conditions they can grow over a foot long. Carrot is basically the final boss version of that idea, proving that with enough time and space even a tiny bowl fish can become a freshwater giant.
So next time you win a goldfish at a carnival, remember Carrot. Treat it right, and twenty years later you might not have a pet, you might have a legend.
