Morning Horsey Peeps
As some of you know I have been unable to work for the last few months, and so I have made the decision to close my business. This decision hasn't been an easy one as i love my work and feel very honoured that you have all allowed me to be a small part of your horsey trials and triumphs. and I thank you all for that :)
I'm still very hopeful that once i'm off the crutches that I will see some of you out and about at events,
Thank you all for your support and kindness and I wish you all a very long and happy horsey life.
Keep safe, Keep being kind and Always question everything, keep your sense of humour. Remember "Rome wasn't build in a day" Take your time. use exercises to build up the horses muscles they need, use praise and reward (pressure off and relax/stretch) when schooling.
I will leave you with on of the best tips I could give any rider and that is ;
Keep working on your position, balance and suppleness If you expect the best from your horse you MUST be disciplined to make yourself the best and a knowledgeable kind rider that you can possibly be (most "horse problems" are actually caused by the rider)
Have Fun Guys and THANKYOU ### :)

Morning Horsey Peeps
Hope you are enjoying having a go at some of these fun schooling exercises :)
This week you will need 2 jumps and a willing friend (you can do this with just poles if you don't want to jump)
Set your jumps approximately 4 strides apart (working canter strides, 20m apart depending on your horses stride, this includes landing and take off)
Warm up your horse
Now jump down the line making sure you get 4 easy strides (both reins)
Now come down the line in 5 strides, you will have to adjust your canter so you approach on a nice shortened even stride (keep the engine going don't kill the power as you shorten the stride) both reins.
Now try on a 3 stride, don't "charge" keep your horses hind legs under him don't let the canter become flat or you will take out a pole.
Lastly you can play at going down the line (decide on the stride well before you approach) then circling round and just doing one fence at a time (approaching from between the jumps on a circle)
then approach one fence at a time on a diagonal line approach.
Mix and match your approaches to make a course using different striding.
This exercise will help keep your horse listening and supple, moving between the different lengths of stride should be kept smooth, balanced, in a good tempo and rhythm.
Have fun guys x

Morning Horsey Peeps
How are you all getting on with the fun schooling exercises?
Well here's another for you to try :)
You will need poles some must be "skinny's ", and jump stands plus a willing friend.
Start by having a good warm up and a stretch.
Start with a row of poles, set them out with approx. 6m apart (depending on horses stride, your friend will adjust for you as you go ;) )
Start with a full length pole, then skinny, then full length.
Walk, trot then canter over them (both directions)
Add 2 more poles (skinny then full length, always start and finish with full length poles)
Make the "skinny's" into small jumps (straight bar with ground pole, not cross rails)
Next start to build up the other poles, one at a time, into small jumps, start with the last jump going up first (so you do, Pole, skinny, pole, skinny, jump)
Once you get to building up the last jump put a placing pole in front to help get the stride.
You should have one non-jumping stride between each jump, the "skinny's" will help you keep in line, Don't rush, as you will run out of room by the last jump, keep the stride relaxed, balanced and even.
Once you have finished, do a couple of rows of "just poles" then cool down.
You may not get to the "full line" in one session, let your horse be your guide, he will let you know when he has understood each "progression" and is ready for more.
Don't forget to THANK your friend, this exercise can give them a good work out as well as your horse lol
Have fun guys x

Morning Horsey Peeps
This weeks challenge is to do a whole session in WALK :)
As you walk round put your horse on a "longer" rein
Now think of your reins ending at your ELBOW not your hands (keep elbows bent, thumbs on top pointing in the direction you are going)
As you walk round keep the contact by keeping your shoulders and elbows supple allowing you to keep the reins straight (no loops, but also no tight heavy reins)
once you can do this round the school start to put in changes of rein.
As you turn, the same rules apply no loops in either rein. think about turning the horses body rather than his nose.
Get someone to video you and keep having a look to see if you have ended up with a loop in one rein while turning. Or if your elbows have become straight and stiff.
Once you have achieved this you can move onto doing lateral work (same rules, longer rein and no loops also not heavy reins, elbows bent).
Remember to keep the walk active with good rhythm, tempo as well as balanced and supple.
EASY right :) give it a go and no cheating
Lighter contact on a longer rein isn't as easy as you might think, you will very quickly loose the contact unless you are on the ball and supple.
Have fun guys :) x

Morning Horsey Peeps
Here's another little exercise you can put into your schooling session this week (You may feel the need to get a pen and paper to draw this one out first)
Warm up as usual
Do these patterns in walk then trot, Make sure you are clear with your aids, and ask for a supple relaxed bend, keeping balance, tempo. if done correctly you will be helping your horse keep supple, balanced and listening :)
Start on a 20m circle at "A"
Now turn your 20m into 2 10m circles (change rein "X" to "A") then back onto the 20m circle
Go Large and do the same pattern at "C"
Change rein and repeat
Remember do them in walk and trot and ask for correct bend without loosing the shoulders or hips (keep them in the tube)
Now do 20m at "A" then 10m at "A" straight into leg yield from 1/4 line to track.
Repeat from "C"
Change rein and repeat (walk then trot)
Finish your session with some diagonal changes of rein across the school in trot see if you can really feel the shift in bend as you approach the corners
Have fun guys :) x

Morning Horsey Peeps
Hope you are enjoying trying the fun exercises :)
Here's another for you to use in your schooling session x
You will need one small jump to start with.
Place your jump at "X" so you jump it going towards "E"/"B"
Warm up
This exercise is to help you to land on the correct lead
Canter a 20m circle going over the jump at "X" make sure you keep looking round the circle
Now canter and change rein over the jump looking in new direction (you may need to use an open rein over the jump and "guiding" legs at first to help your horse understand that he has to change legs)
If he doesn't get the correct lead then just quietly go back to trot and ask for canter in the corner.
Now circle 20m on new rein taking in the jump at "X" keep looking around the circle
Next time change the rein over the jump :)
The horse will quickly start to feel the shift in your position (even though it is. slight) and will recognize which lead and direction he needs to go. Remember not to get frustrated just tick along with quiet corrections until he gets what you are asking, lots of praise for even the slightest thing will let him know he's going in the right direction, take regular walk breaks.
Once this has been established you can then progress to a jump at "A" "X" and "C" making sure he lands on correct lead as he could start to think he needs to change "every" time
Have fun Guys :)

Morning Horsey Peeps
I hope you enjoyed having a go at the last fun exercise.
Now for another fun pole exercise for you to play with, (you will need a friend to help with this one)
Set up 7 trot poles along the centre line. (approx. 1m apart depending on your horses stride)
Warm up
Now trot over the poles in both directions (try not to let your horse knock them)
Once you have managed to get the even stride with your horse respecting the poles and not kicking them get your friend to take out the 4th pole and trot over them on both reins.
Keep the even stride all the way along the line (no half strides)
Next get your friend to take out number 2 and 6 pole, trot over poles in both directions keeping the even stride
Now take out 3 and 5 so you are just left with 1 and 7, see if you can trot an even stride as if the poles were still in place
Sounds easy??
Well give it a try and have some fun
Remember this exercise is to help keep an even stride NOT to go down the poles rushing with a crash bang wallop effect
Good luck guys and have some fun schooling :) xx

Morning Horsey Peeps
Just a little schooling fun for you all to try
Set a pole, one end on "X" other end pointing towards "A" or "C"
then add 2 more poles (one end of each on "X") so you have a "Y" shape of poles.
Now after your warm up start to do as many circles as you can going over each pole, changing directions and patterns.
You can make this simple or difficult depending on your horses education and level of fitness.
If you can keep an even pace in walk, trot, and canter then you can make them into small jumps,
Great way to practice your approach keeping the horse on an even bend, stride and balanced.
Have fun Guys xx
