The loveliest words from the most hard working nicest owners ❤️

And the most beautiful girl ❤️❤️

Mable definately has not had an easy start in life, she was very likely not shown anything, exposed to the outside, or even was able to be a Spaniel before she came to Jenny and Ross meaning understandably she was worried and scared about anything.

Lying down and settling seems a basic thing doesn’t it, but to do that a dog has to feel safe.

And that isn’t something you build overnight. So we built it gently gradually at her pace , previously when outside the house she would pant bark and jump up at her lovely owners constantly, now she happily lies down, watches the world and enjoys the cafe treats❤️

She would bark at every dog, she was used for breeding from young so it’s no wonder she didn’t want dogs approaching her. Now she will say hi to some dogs and stay calm around others, as this review says occasionally she may bark but it will be a quick bark then she will calm back down quickly and carry on with her walk instead of ending up super stressed and wanting to run back home.

She also can now enjoy family holidays and go to new places and make friends, Bailey my own Spaniel in the photo below being one of her first buddies.

Her tail doesn’t stop wagging now, she’s learnt what it means to enjoy Spaniel life and she’s realising life really is fun and people are kind ❤️

Well done beautiful girl, I’ve put two videos in the comments showing her on walks. Before and now, so very lovely to see.

If you would like support with your Spaniel do get in touch. I would love to help you x

Spaniel logic episode 7436724 today

“It’s FAR too hot outside… so naturally I’m going to leave the cool house, climb onto the warm chair, lie directly on top of you and make us both overheat together.” 😳

Honestly, I think Spaniels spend at least half their lives making questionable decisions 😅

But it is also a little gentle reminder that many Spaniels will just keep going in warmer weather. They’ll keep chasing, running, swimming, sniffing and adventuring long after they probably should have stopped.

So whilst we all enjoy this beautiful sunshine, don’t forget that slower days are absolutely okay too ❤️

A shorter sniffy walk.
A sit in the shade together.
A paddling pool in the garden.
Some enrichment at home.
A quiet afternoon nap together

It all still counts.

What interesting hot weather decisions has your Spaniel been making lately?

When Molly’s owners first got in touch with me, life already felt pretty full.

They had a young baby, a busy Spaniel, and that feeling so many owners know of wanting walks and day to day life to feel calmer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Molly was a young Spaniel with big feelings, strong instincts, and lots of excitement about the world around her.

Since then, we’ve worked on so many little pieces together over Zoom.

Recall.
Lead walking.
Connection.
Managing arousal levels.
Learning how to slow down and stay steadier on walks.
Learning how to work with Molly’s hunting instincts instead of constantly battling against them.

And honestly, none of it happened overnight.

There wasn’t one magical session where suddenly everything was “fixed.”

It was the small wins.
The repeated practice.
The consistent choices.
The moments that probably didn’t feel huge at the time.

The extra few seconds of connection.
A calmer lead walk down one street.
A whistle recall around a distraction.
Choosing to stay engaged instead of disappearing into the environment.

And over time, all of those little moments started adding up.

Her owner recently sent me this message after a walk:

“But Molly was an absolute star 🌟 I was able to keep her on the collar the whole time as she walked next to me without pulling and we did a few find it games on the stone walls! She did fab!”

And I think that’s what progress with Spaniels often looks like.

Not perfection.
Not robotic behaviour.
But real life becoming more manageable, calmer, and more enjoyable together.

Now Molly can walk nicely in many places, recall on the whistle to a really lovely standard, and stay connected even around strong scents and exciting environments while still being allowed to explore and use her instincts appropriately, and is totally settled in the house.

Most importantly, her owners have built a much better understanding of who Molly is and how to work with her rather than against her.

And I also think Molly is such a lovely reminder that online training and Zoom support really can work incredibly well when owners are committed and consistent with the training in between sessions.

Training progress is very rarely one big dramatic moment.
It’s usually hundreds of tiny moments quietly stacking on top of each other.

Especially when you’re juggling real life, work, children, tiredness, and everything else that comes with owning a Spaniel.

So if you’re currently in the messy middle of training your Spaniel, keep going.

Those little wins matter more than you think ❤️

And if you’d love more support with your own Spaniel, that’s exactly why I created the Spaniel Inner Circle.

It’s an online membership for Spaniel and Spaniel cross owners where you get ongoing access to live coaching with me, training support, step by step videos, and help with all things Spaniel, from recall and lead walking to over excitement, settling, chasing, and understanding your dog better.

But just like Molly’s journey, progress comes from showing up, joining in, asking questions, and consistently working through the little pieces over time.

That’s where the real change happens ❤️

If you’d like to come and join us inside the Spaniel Inner Circle, I’ll pop the link in the comments ❤️

I think sometimes Spaniel owners put far too much pressure on themselves.

And honestly, after being on the go since 6:30am this morning, I think I needed that reminder myself today too.

Last night I got a message to say our childcare provider was poorly and closed for today, which meant today became a very different kind of day than originally planned.

So instead of a work day, today became toddler duties, mum duties, Spaniel duties, trying to answer messages one handed while someone repeatedly shouted “TOOT TOOT CAR RACING DRIVER!” in the background, while also somehow hearing the word “snack” approximately 1,020 times before 10am 😅

Then tonight, once Albie was finally asleep, I jumped straight onto one to one calls with my lovely clients.

And honestly? Some days life just doesn’t go to plan

At the moment my husband is working abroad, I’m solo parenting most of the time, juggling all of the things like many of us , and I’ve also injured my leg and need surgery soon.

So lately, I’ve had to get quite good at adjusting expectations and doing what works.

Some days Bailey gets a lovely longer walk with me hobbling behind him.

Other days it’s a shorter sniffy wander around the block.

Other days it’s cuddles on the sofa.

And today we booked a secure field because it meant Albie could safely run around, Bailey could zoom and sniff and enjoy himself, and I didn’t have to completely wreck my leg trying to force myself through a huge walk with them both.

Honestly, Bailey was completely feral in the best possible Spaniel way today. Full speed zoomies, sniffing absolutely everything, charging around like he’d won the lottery. And yes he isn’t walking to heel here but look how much fun they are both having

And instead of overthinking it or trying to make the day look “perfect,” we just rolled with it. The slightly chaotic imperfect day it was.

Simple.
Easy.
Everybody gets what they need.

And honestly?

Sometimes that is enough.

I think social media can sometimes make owners feel like they should always be doing more.
Longer walks.
More training.
More enrichment.
More structure.
More perfection
More progress

But real life doesn’t always look perfectly organised.

Some days are messy
Some days are tiring.
Some days plans change before you’ve even had your first coffee.

And that does not mean you are failing your Spaniel

Your Spaniel does not need you to have a perfect routine or a perfect day every single day.

They just need you.

So if things feel a little crazy at the moment, or you feel like you’re not quite doing enough, this is your reminder to give yourself a bit of credit too.

You’re probably doing far better than you think ❤️

Does anyone else feel like they needed that reminder this week? 😴🐾

The emergency stop cue is a great thing to train your Spaniel and also your toddler… Bailey = 10/10 knows what I’m going to do before I do it typical Spaniel, and “erm can you recall the child facial expression” going on 😅 Albie 10/10 for enthusiasm 5.5/10 for time to respond 😅 have a wonderful bank holiday weekend all. Enjoy lots of adventures with your gorgeous Spaniels ❤️ do tell me what you will be doing? :)

Your Spaniel doesn’t have an off switch right?

You’ve walked them
Played with them
Given them things to do

And yet…
they’re still pacing
still watching everything
still ready for more

So you try to teach a “settle” and they just lie there staring at you waiting for the next treat

Here’s the bit most people aren’t told:

Spaniels aren’t naturally good at switching off
they’re bred to stay alert, notice everything, and be ready to go

Which means settling isn’t something that just happens it’s something we need to teach properly

And sometimes the way we’ve been shown to do that
actually keeps them switched on, not relaxed

I’m talking all about this inside my Inner Circle membership tonight at 8.15 pm
how to rethink settle training and what actually helps your Spaniel relax in real life so you can enjoy your pub visits in peace

Not perfectly
not just on a mat
but in your home, and your day-to-day life

If your Spaniel struggles to switch off, you’re not alone
and you’re definitely not doing it wrong 🤍

Message me if you’d like the details to join us I can guarantee you will find it helpful ❤️

This is Marley he’s one of my 1-1 zoom clients as he isn’t local to me. We have been working on a lot of things including recall using my signature Spaniel system. Marley who is just over one loves other dogs and has even ran out a park to say hi before, here he is seeing dogs choosing to stay with his owner, saying hi when released to and recalling himself away from the play. Marley’s owners also have two beautiful cats which Marley finds very exciting recently one of the cats were in the garden, Marley began to chase and immediately recalled away. He is doing so well. The plan is also absolutely not to stop him playing with other dogs either he needs to play but he also needs to not just charge up to every dog ❤️ if you struggle with your Spaniel’s recall I’d love to know what you find the hardest? :)

You don’t always need to do more with your Spaniel.

Sometimes you just need to stop.

And I don’t mean a perfect “sit nicely on a bench while I drink my coffee” kind of stop. This is what is happening in this photo but it can take time and that’s ok.

I mean the slightly messy, real-life version.

Where you sit down for two minutes
They’re sniffing, fidgeting, looking around
And you’re wondering if this is even doing anything.

But it is.

Because most Spaniels get very good at being on the go. Walking, running, chasing, sniffing, training. Being busy.

And without realising it, we can end up building dogs who feel like they always need to be doing something.

So if you’re struggling with settling this week, try this

At some point on your walk, just pause.

Sit on a bench.
Or stand still for a minute or two.
Let the world go on around you don’t ask your dog to do anything.

No pressure for them to settle.
No expectations.

Just being.

At first, it can feel pointless
But done regularly, this is often where you start to see a shift.

They begin to realise they don’t always have to be “on.”

And that’s a skill so many Spaniels actually need help learning.

You can do this at home too.

Sitting in the garden with a cup of tea in the morning
Popping the lead on indoors and just having them with you while nothing much is happening.

Little moments of stillness, built into everyday life.

Not huge training sessions.
Not perfection.

Just small, consistent pauses.

And they add up more than you think.

If you’re struggling with a Spaniel who finds it hard to switch off, or feels like they’re always “on the go,” you’re not alone with it.

Feel free to send me a message if you want some help and just a friendly understanding chat ❤️

There’s this pressure when you’ve got a Spaniel that you should always be doing more

More training
More enrichment
Longer walks
Better recall
More consistency

Just more

And when life feels full (which it often does), it’s really easy to feel like you’re not quite getting it right.

Like you’re behind
Like your Spaniel “should be further along”
Like you’re somehow missing something everyone else has figured out. Disclaimer we are all still figuring it out.

But here’s the reality most people don’t talk about.

Progress with a Spaniel doesn’t come from doing everything perfectly. Life with them is often actually imperfectly perfect.

The progress comes from the small moments you probably don’t even give yourself credit for.

The check in on a walk
The slightly looser lead
The 2 minutes of calm that used to be chaos
The seeing another dog and not immediately barking

That’s the work.

That’s what builds everything else.

Not perfect routines
Not getting it right every single day
Not doing all the things

Just small, consistent moments that add up over time.

So if things feel a bit messy at the moment you’re not doing it wrong.

You’re exactly where you need to be.

I’d love to know what’s one small win you’ve had with your Spaniel recently? Tell me ❤️
