☀Heatwave alert

With temperatures soaring in the coming days, please remember that heat can be extremely dangerous for our dogs, especially older dogs, puppies, and those with health conditions. Prevention is always better than cure:

🚫 Avoid walking your dog during the day. Even in the shade, it can be far too hot. Stick to early mornings or late evenings when the ground is cooler. If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

💧 Make sure your dog always has access to fresh water and a cool, shaded space to relax in. Paddling pools, cooling mats, and frozen treats can help keep them comfortable.

🚗 Never leave your dog in a car. Even for a minute. Temperatures rise incredibly fast and can be fatal.

✋ If the pavement / ground surface is too hot for the back of your hand, then it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

⚠️ Watch for signs of heatstroke: Panting, drooling, red gums, restlessness, vomiting, or collapse. If you suspect heatstroke: WET THEN VET. Cool your dog immediately using cool water or a fan and offer small sips of water. Then call your vet straight away. DO NOT WRAP YOUR DOG IN A WET TOWEL as this will trap in the heat.
