Be aware the hidden dangers of water play in the heatwave….

Playing with hosepipes and sprinklers may seem like harmless fun, but excessive water ingestion can be dangerous for dogs. Drinking large amounts of water in a short time can lead to water intoxication, a potentially life-threatening condition that causes swelling of the brain and can result in seizures, collapse, or death.

Dogs can also be at risk of secondary drowning (delayed drowning) if water is inhaled into the lungs, leading to breathing difficulties hours after play.
Watch for signs such as lethargy, vomiting, bloating, loss of coordination, coughing, or breathing problems, and seek veterinary attention immediately if you are concerned.

Enjoy water play safely by limiting hosepipe games, taking frequent breaks, and ensuring your dog isn’t continuously gulping water.

Lovely to be back with my furry charges after a very stressful week off!!
Because we had the super charged Ziggy with us today I decided to book The Dog Walking Field in Burton. I have to say I’ve used this field many times with my own dogs and it is brilliant, it’s huge compared to other local ones and all the dogs seem to love it so if you haven’t already, try it!

Hot weather info

Just to update you all on what will happen in the hot weather with the walks.

I will be picking up as usual but we will be going to wooded areas with shade and water, therefore the dogs will be out for longer than usual as the journey times will be longer. Please don’t worry about the extra journey time. My car is big, with all windows tinted and aircon, I am also putting cool mats on the seats/boot.

I will be taking the mud daddy pet wash filled with cool water so all dogs will have a little splash of water before the walk to keep them cooler for longer. If at any point I see any dog struggling the walk will be cut short for all.

If you have cooling vests for your dogs please leave them out or pop them on them in the morning.

In the event of a dog falling ill with the heat I will go to the nearest vet, this may not necessarily be your vet.

Your dogs health and welfare is of the utmost importance and I will judge day by day walk by walk and either cancel or cut short walks as I see fit, this is regardless of any owner saying it’s ok mines fine in the heat. When the dogs are in my care they are my responsibility and therefore it’s my call.
