Welcoming this handsome boy to Paw Pals 🤭🥰
We had an interesting first interaction where he really wasn’t sure about me coming into his home and trying to take him for walk. Showing me all the signs of feeling stressed (barking, snarling, growling) whenever I tried to get a lead on his collar. So I sat and spoke to him for about 20 minutes without going near him or touching him, and thought about ways to show him the lead is a positive interaction. 🤔💭
He loved the treats I had on me, so luckily was able to make up some games with him to show him I wasn’t a threat, and with some time and patience I managed to sneakily clip the lead on his collar😅🎉🎉 Unfortunately I got the harness over his head but he wouldn’t allow me to clip it underneath him so we we made do with collar and lead ✔️
The first walk together was very hectic and he wasn’t sure about the lead at first but we carried on and managed an hour (sniffing & listening to commands to work off some pent up energy too) & then made our way home which he seemed very happy when he got back 🤭
Since then I have used the same technique consistently in the same place in his house and 4 weeks in he now happily lets me put his lead on his collar, stroke him, touch his face etc 💯 we have built a fantastic relationship over that time, he has made a lovely doggie friend and I’ve even managed to introduce him to one of my friends!
