Watching these 12 dogs and their owners having a blast, catching up, chatting and laughing on a sunny Thursday evening in May reminded me why I do this.

Most of these owners were previously isolated - with dogs unable to be around other dogs or people - walks like this were just a dream.

And the dogs all able to coexist with little to no management - a testament to the hard work their owners have put in.

Food for the soul that is 🥹

If your dog can’t be off lead because they react and run at dogs, you need to change their default response to seeing a dog.

Show them ‘hey, when you see a dog, instead of charging and barking, come back to me’.

When you teach a dog to do this they stop rehearsing the behaviour, they start to be able to regulate themselves around triggers, it becomes a new default response and you will find walks so much easier (without needing to micromanage the entire walk!)

These two videos are just 4 weeks apart, achieved through residential training, but I also help owners build this with their dogs through 1-2-1 coaching.

If you’re dealing with reactivity and need support drop me a message 🤍

Recall shouldn’t mean come back and leave again!

It should mean come back and then wait until you hear the next cue or are released.

In this video I release the dogs - they are all waiting to hear ‘okay’. If there’s ever a time where I need more control after a recall, I can ask for down or heel depending on the situation.

4 dogs, 3 different breeds, all trained with the same training system = delightful group walks 😍

Spaniel owners will know this all too well... you want to let your dog off lead so they can do what they were bred for and then suddenly they're gone, straight into the undergrowth. No amount of shouting, whistling or shaking a treat bag brings them back.

That's because they're wired to hunt and chase. When that kicks in, it's like tunnel vision. If you don't know how to channel that drive into something you DO want, off-lead freedom just isn't safe.

The good news is reliable recall is possible for any dog.
You just need to work with their instincts, not against them. Three weeks ago the dog in this video would've been gone when I unclipped the lead, but look at him now!

This is exactly what I help with, whether that's through 1-2-1 sessions or a residential programme. If you're curious about how this could look for your dog, drop me a message and we can chat.

One of these black Labs was trained with my system from when he was a puppy. The other came to me for a 3 week residential programme just four months ago.

Different starts, but both have reached the same place: happy, motivated dogs with off lead freedom ☺️

If you’re wondering whether residential training might suit your dog, feel free to message me and we can have a chat about it!

One of the first things I teach any dog (after unlocking their motivation 👀) is a food marker word.

It marks the moment your dog has done the behaviour you are looking for and signals to them that they can come to you for their food reward.

For me and most of my clients this is “YES”. Obviously in the video above, for demo purposes, I am marking absolutely nothing…however the response you see from all three dogs is what you should be looking for.

It is SO important that your dog is suitably motivated and fully understands their marker. No clear marker = no clear communication!
