🎉 The Roaming Vet is turning ONE! 🎉

One year ago, I took the leap and started The Roaming Vet, and I can’t quite believe I’m now celebrating my first anniversary! 🐾

Over the last 12 months I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful pets and their owners, and I truly can’t thank you enough for trusting me to care for your furry family. Your support, recommendations and kind words have helped my little business grow beyond what I ever imagined.

To celebrate my first anniversary, I’m going to be giving away a personalised anniversary hamper to one lucky client! 🎁

The hamper will be thoughtfully tailored to you and your individual circumstances, and may include:

🍾 Thoughtfully chosen treats and gifts for you
🐶🐱 Toys, treats or other carefully selected pet goodies, where appropriate
💜 A gift voucher to use with The Roaming Vet

Every existing client will automatically be entered into the draw. New clients who book their first appointment before 26th August will automatically be entered into the draw.

🧁 I’ll also be celebrating during anniversary week by bringing cupcakes along on my visits (while they last!) as a little thank you.

🎉 The winner will be drawn on 26th August 🎉

Thank you for supporting my small independent business and for allowing me to do a job I genuinely love every single day. Whether you’ve been with me since the beginning or have only recently joined The Roaming Vet family, I’m so grateful to have you along for the journey.

Here’s to another year of caring for your wonderful pets! 🐾💜

P.S. This is a photo of Hazel (my little Hazelnut!) celebrating her first birthday. It felt like the perfect picture to help celebrate The Roaming Vet turning one too! 🐶🎉

The most relaxed little pup!

A puppy’s first vaccination is an important milestone in protecting them against serious infectious diseases. It’s also the perfect opportunity to carry out a full health check and discuss any questions you may have about your puppy’s health, care and development.

For breeders, home visits make life that bit easier too. No loading up a car full of wriggly puppies, and hopefully a lot less cleaning up after the journey! 🚗🐶

HOT WEATHER TRUTHS ☀️

As temperatures climb, so do the myths about keeping our dogs safe in the heat. Here are some important facts that are the truth …

💦 Cold water is safe

If your dog is overheating, don’t be afraid to use cold water. You don’t need to wait for “tepid” water, and cold water will NOT send your dog into shock.

The priority is reducing body temperature quickly and safely. The cooler the water, the more effective it will be at helping bring their temperature down.

💦 Wet them thoroughly

If you suspect heat stroke, think WET THEN VET.

Soak your dog all over, right down to the skin, using the coldest water available. Don’t just wet their paws or belly! Keep air moving around them with a fan or open window in the car.

🧊 Ice cubes and frozen treats are great

Ice cubes and frozen treats are a fab idea to keep your pet entertained. My girls love a frozen treat on a Lick-e-mat.

🐕 Thick coats don’t make dogs heat-proof

Dogs with dense or double coats can still overheat and often more quickly than people realise.

The thick undercoat traps heat close to the body, making it harder for them to cool themselves, especially during exercise.

And of course take extra care with older dogs, overweight dogs, flat-faced breeds, and dogs with underlying health conditions. 💞🐾

One of the highlights of BVA Live was catching up with two old colleagues and friends from my first ever vet job!

Two of us now spend our days driving around with a van full of veterinary kit and an unhealthy dependence on Google Maps.

I realised how many awesome independent mobile vets are out there now. We might spend a disproportionate amount of our lives navigating country roads, reversing into passing places and hoping the sat nav knows something we don’t, but I bloody love it! It’s amazing to see this shift towards in-home vet care.

Don’t wait and cool them down fast. Get them thoroughly wet with cold water, then seek veterinary care immediately.

Thank you again to everyone who came to our pet loss walk. We’re thinking about organising another one in the future, so if it’s something you’d be interested in joining, let us know ❤️🐾

What a beautiful sunny morning for our walk last Sunday (and thankfully not too hot!) ☀️

Melissa The Roaming Vet and I would just like to thank everyone who came along. We hope you all found moments of connection and comfort with others who truly understand the difficult experience of losing a pet ❤️

And for any pet owners in the Skipton area, Melissa offers such wonderful, supportive care for both you and your pet. She visits you at home, where your pet feels most comfortable, and provides such a compassionate and thoughtful service.

One week to go!

Melissa The Roaming Vet and I can’t wait to see you all next week 🐾💚

Just a little reminder to bring:
💧 A drink
👟 Comfy clothing & suitable footwear
☀️ Suncream/hat if it’s warm
🌧️ A raincoat or umbrella just in case… British weather and all that 😂

The weather is looking hopeful at the moment 🤞 but we’ll update everyone closer to the time if needed.

You’re also very welcome to bring anything that brings you comfort, as sometimes talking about or reminiscing about our pets can bring a lot up 💛

We’re really looking forward to seeing you all!
