Katniss and Rue We are two RSPCA rescue bunnies, Oscar and Henry. We live in a bunny palace in Shrewsbury, UK. We also have an important message to share!

Outdoor buns are not always sad neglected pets, shut in a tiny hutch at the bottom of the garden. Our set up is a very good example of how outdoor rabbits should live, with adequate space and freedom and all the other things needed to keep them happy, healthy and fun pets to be around.

Oh dear, now I’m getting negative comments because I kept them indoors during the heatwave! 🤣Makes a change from being told off for keeping them outdoors though! I’m never gonna win with some people , am I? 🤷‍♀️😩

Another bunny rescue in desperate need of any help we can give. We have made a small donation, you could do the same, or share this post. Or even just following their page will be helping

This is an incredibly difficult post to write.

We had an emergency meeting on Friday, and it breaks our hearts to share this: Fluffy Butts Rescue is in serious danger of closing. After paying this month’s bills, we’ll be left with just £200 in our account. It’s a terrifying place to be. We’ve put so much into Fluffy Butts over the past 6 years and the last year has been incredibly tough to continue going. We all want the rescue to go on as long as we can, but the reality is we may not make it to the end of year.

This rescue has been built on love, passion, and relentless dedication- every moment, every tear, every triumph has gone into making it a safe haven for the animals who needed us most. But now, we’re facing the harsh reality that it may all come to an end.

We know times are tough for everyone right now, so this isn’t a guilt trip- this is a heartfelt call for help. As we fight to keep our rescue going.

✨ If you have experience in fundraising or suggestions please get in touch
✨ If you can share our story or spread the word
✨ If you have a few pounds to spare
✨ If you can donate items for raffles or auctions
✨ if you can please engage in our posts

Even what might seem like a small act, really makes a difference.

To put it into perspective: if every one of our amazing 6.8k followers donated just£1, it would help keep us going for most of the year.

We have a few fundraising events in the works for the next couple of months and we'll be sharing the details very soon-watch this space!

Please reach out to us or message the page if you have ideas, time, items to donate, or encouragement to offer 🫶🏻

We’re almost ready to go back home! 🐰🏡

Today our ape has been out preparing our palace fur our return- a bit of painting, a new floor laid, and a thorough clean up.

We are mostly looking forward to going out and nomming some grass. Although it’s looking a bit dry at the moment, due to the heatwave. Once we get back out there it will probably rain! ☔️ 🤣🐰

Can anybody send a small donation to help with Belle’s surgery costs? We has sent £5 of our Birthday treat money! ❤️

Can anybody send a small donation to help with Belle’s surgery costs? We has sent £5 of our Birthday treat money! ❤️

Tomorrow this tiny 6 week old baby that weighs just 700g is going to undergo a major operation to remove her ruptured eye. 😔

Belle’s operation is going to cost the rescue a whopping £650. To come up with that sum in less than 24 hours is worrying!

We have simply the best supporters out there and you guys have already raised £95 towards little Belle’s treatment 🤍 Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far 🥹

If you could donate just £1 to Belle’s major operation tomorrow, we would be so grateful for you helping Belle have a brighter future!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts 🫶🏻

We need your help! And so do the rabbits, and it's desperate! ‼️🐰

We are trying to update the figure of 67,000 rabbits that need a rescue space each year.

We have been very shocked and saddened that almost half of the rescue / adoption / rehoming centres we have contacted have closed. This is terrible and the result of lack of financial support, emotional burnout and poor health.

There has been a rescue crisis in this country for too long, and it is only getting worse, with a shocking 84% of rescues saying they are finding things worse since covid.

Some key findings from the survey so far:

Most common reasons for surrendering rabbits are:

1. Lack of time
2. Financial problems
3. Children have lost interest
4. Change in circumstances

- It costs a rescue on average £201-400 to get a single rabbit ready for rehoming.

- Rabbits often wait up to 12 months for their new home.

We understand that times are tough for everyone at the moment and no one can predict a change in circumstances or financial problems. But check out our advice below to make sure you don’t contribute to the rescue crisis.

How can YOU help?

If you are thinking of adding rabbits to your family PLEASE ADOPT DON’T SHOP.

You can find an adoption centre close to you via saveafluff.co.uk

Please do your research and make sure you have the time, space and resources to commit to rabbits for the next 10 years.

And remember that adults are always responsible for the rabbits and not children. It should be a family commitment.

If you can’t adopt, please support your local rescue. Share their posts, donate, volunteer, look for their amazon wish list.

And remember, you can point people to our website and social channels to help them get the right advice!

⚠️ Tonic Immobility in Rabbits Is Not “Relaxation.” It’s Survival Panic. ⚠️

Also known as “trancing,” this is not a calm state — it’s a trauma response.

When a rabbit is flipped onto their back and goes completely still, people often say,
“Aww, look — they’re so relaxed!”
But here’s the truth:

🚫 They are not relaxed.
🚫 They are not meditating.
🚫 They are not “playing dead” voluntarily.

What you’re seeing is tonic immobility — a last-resort, evolutionary defense mechanism used by prey animals when they believe they are about to die.

In the wild, when a predator grabs a rabbit, they might go completely limp. The idea is simple: if I stop struggling, maybe the predator will lose interest. It’s a freeze response — not consent, not calm, and definitely not safe.

What Happens to a Rabbit in Tonic Immobility?

• 💔 Heart rate spikes

• 💔 Stress hormones flood their system

• 💔 They are wide awake and terrified

• 💔 They cannot move, but they are not unconscious.

• 💔 They can stay frozen for minutes — or even die from fear

Repeated or prolonged trancing can lead to:

• 🧠 Long-term trauma

• 🫀 Cardiac distress

• 😵‍💫 Increased anxiety and fear of handling

In short: trancing is psychological and physiological hell for a rabbit.

But I Saw a Vet/ or I saw a video of it being done?

Yes — and they’re either uninformed or ignoring the science.

Modern rabbit-savvy vets, behaviorists, and welfare organizations do not support using tonic immobility for grooming, nail trims, or photography. There are gentle, respectful ways to handle rabbits that don’t involve inducing a fear response.

What Should You Do Instead?

✅ Handle rabbits with two feet on the ground whenever possible
✅ Build trust through patience and positive experiences
✅ Use proper positioning and support during medical care — never flipping them onto their backs
✅ Educate others: trancing is not a harmless trick — it’s terror disguised as stillness

If your rabbit has ever been “tranced,” they weren’t calm.
They were in full-body panic, waiting to die.

Don’t ever mistake fear for trust.
