Structured pack walks

This is what most people panic over.

Screaming. Biting the lead. Throwing himself around.

This puppy wasn’t scared.

He wasn’t in pain.

He just didn’t want to do what he was told.

The mistake most owners make here is giving in — stopping, soothing, negotiating, or quitting the walk.

That teaches the dog one thing: tantrums work.

We pushed through calmly and clearly.

No drama. No anger. No rushing.

Within 10 minutes he was walking nicely on the lead.

And after one short session on the road, he joined a full pack walk with 12 dogs — calm, engaged, zero kick-offs.

Structure isn’t cruelty.

It’s clarity.

And clarity creates calm dogs.

1 year ago today, we adopted Angus.

He’d already been through two homes in his first year because of behavioural issues.

Two months after bringing him home, I snapped my Achilles tendon.

We kept going anyway.

Now he’s off-lead, solid, and trusted in any situation.

And somehow… he’s also become a dad.

One hell of a year, my boy ❤️

Simple correction.

Clear meaning.

Calm response.

Red is now conditioned to the e-collar.

At this stage, the collar simply means:

👉 disengage
👉 come back
👉 check in

We’re passing another handler and a small dog.
Rascal drifts in first.

I cue “nose out” — for him, that means get your nose out of that dog’s arse..

Red then steps in afterwards.

At the exact moment the smaller dog snaps, I apply a moderate, well-timed correction to Red.

Watch the sequence:

Red backs up
Acknowledges the information (head twitch)
Disengages
Recalls on the lowest stim
Sits
Makes eye contact
Waits for release

No escalation.
No flooding.
No suppression.

Just clear information, delivered at the right moment.

That’s how boundaries get understood.
That’s how dogs learn to disengage.
That’s how calm behaviour is built.
