I'm Hayley a dog behaviourist trainer based in Kent UK
I started Hayley's Hounds to support pet owners who have done the most incredible thing to adopt a stray/ex-shelter dog from abroad. Which has been and still is the best experience, walking the dogs to give them a break from kennels. Kennel clearing, looking after and helping all types of dogs and their behaviours. Working with rescue dogs is
one of the best rewarding and learning experiences I have done with these dogs to find their forever homes. The journey I have been on with my own dog, which I rescued from a shelter in Romania is the reason I have started my own dog behaviourist trainer business. A lot of the time when these dogs come over to the UK to their forever homes, one mistake some owners do make is that they don’t realise fully these dogs are not your normal rescue pet dogs like you get from rescues in the UK. Unfortunately, these dogs come with their own set of behavioural issues, which can take time as most of them have never been in a home, or even had a collar put on. Some, unfortunately, come with PTDS and a whole load of reactivity issues, which I understand firsthand can be stressful and worrying for the owner. This is why Hayley Hounds understands the importance and commitment pet owners have to giving these dogs a second chance, to come into your loving home and to be part of your family. You the owner have already made that first incredible step to rescue a stray/ex-shelter dog from abroad. Now let Hayley’s Hounds give you the guidance, support and confidence for you and your dog. We are here every step of the way to help your dog’s confidence grow and to give you the tools to navigate any of the issues your dog has inside and outside the home. This could be lunging and reacting to other dogs on your walk, this is what we call fear aggression. Or your dog is always on its own and hiding at home as it’s not used to its new environment and you can’t touch or interact with your dog. Nutrition and health your dog is getting a very upset stomach from the food you are feeding it, as it might not be used to traditional pet food and this has resulted in a hunger strike or your dog getting ill. High pray drive and lack of recall and understanding, well English isn’t their first language so give them a chance! Some of these things and more I have just mentioned are very stressful on the dog and also on you the owner. I was like that with my dog and at the time, now looking back, I wish I had someone like Hayley’s Hounds to help and guide me and my dog, and not to feel pressured or judged along the way for rescuing a dog from abroad. If you would like to enquire about how Hayley’s Hounds and the one-on-one behavioural training I provide please feel free to call or email me. I also handle other dog behavioural issues not just dogs that are rescued from abroad, if you have a dog which is showing signs of certain issues and you need a trainer to come and assess which is the best way course to take to help deal with your dog’s certain behavioural issues, please give me a call or drop me an email. I will be more than happy to help and we can set up a one-on-one consultation. If you would also like to follow my journey please go to my blog which I update each week.
