🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
(And no… this is NOT an April Fools joke! 😂)

As many of you know, we sadly lost our beloved Bertie 5 weeks ago 💔
He truly was the bestest boy, and there will never be another like him. He could never, ever be replaced.

However, we had to think about Bonnie, who had spent her whole life by Bertie’s side. Since losing him, she’s been feeling quite anxious without her big brother 💕

A couple of weeks before we lost Bertie, we received some lovely news from Tattney Gundogs— Bertie’s older sister (same mum and dad!) had just had a beautiful litter of 6 puppies 🐶

Then, just a week before we said goodbye to Bertie, we were incredibly lucky to be offered one of those puppies…

So, here we are… officially introducing the newest (and cheekiest!) member of the bakery and retreat family…

After lots of demand (and a few dogs trying their luck at the Pup Pantry 👀)…

We’ve officially expanded…

Introducing our brand new Self Check-In Boarding System™️ 🐾

That’s right - you can now simply pop your dog into the Pup Pantry, and our clever system will alert us that we’ve got a new boarder ready to check in!

✔ No paperwork
✔ No awkward goodbyes
✔ Just one very happy dog making themselves at home

We’ve even installed a paw-activated alert system so they can let us know they’ve arrived 🐶🔔

Perfect for busy mornings… or dogs who just can’t wait to move in 😅

The weather is finally starting to warm up a little (let’s hope it stays that way 🤞), and we’re excited to add even more enrichment into the mix here at Happy Hound Retreat ☀️🐾

While enrichment is something we provide all year round, it’s the perfect time to bring out the lickimats more regularly — along with a few new ones I may have accidentally picked up 🤫 — all topped with delicious organic fruit & veg purées and other healthy goodies.

We’ve also invested in some brand new puzzle toys and snuffle toys (thank you, Crufts 👀), which we’ll be gradually introducing over the next couple of weeks to keep things fresh, stimulating, and fun for all our daycare and boarding pups.

I also managed to source some new healthy food toppers and treats at Crufts, which we’ll be giving out alongside enrichment activities — always tailored to each dog and any allergies or dietary requirements they may have 💛🐶

We love making sure every dog at Happy Hound Retreat has plenty of enrichment, mental stimulation, and, of course, tasty treats.

📢 Boarding Availability Update 🐾

Due to some last-minute cancellations, we now have boarding availability for:

• 10th – 20th March
• 23rd – 30th March

If you’ve been looking for care during these dates, please get in touch as soon as possible to secure your space.

We also want to share an important update. As a small micro-business, last-minute cancellations have a significant impact on us — especially when we’ve had to turn other clients away. Because of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to begin taking deposits to confirm all bookings.

This isn’t something we’ve wanted to introduce, but it’s now essential to help us continue operating sustainably and fairly for everyone.

Feeling heartbroken 💔 💔💔💔

After a nine month battle with cancer, our beloved boy, Bertie, passed over the rainbow bridge this morning. It was a hard decision but he had gone down hill over the weekend and we couldn’t bear to see him suffer.
Bertie gave us 5 wonderful years of love, friendship and happiness, for which we will forever be grateful. His temperament and loving nature were his foremost attributes and we will miss him enormously.

We are absolutely thrilled to share that Happy Hound Retreat has been nominated for an Animal Star Award for the first time! 🐾⭐

We’ve been nominated in the Dog Boarder category, which is incredibly special to us. Providing a safe, loving, and home-from-home environment for dogs is at the heart of everything we do, and to be recognised for this so early on is such an honour.

A huge thank you to everyone who has trusted us with their dogs and supported us on this journey — it truly means everything 💛🐶

One of my favourite parts of home boarding is these quiet, cosy moments 🐾

Luca (left) and Dora (right) relaxing, cuddling in, and feeling completely at ease at Happy Hound Retreat.

Every dog in my care is treated as an individual, with their own routines, comfort levels, and needs respected. Creating a calm, loving environment where dogs can truly settle is at the heart of what I do.

Today is a big one… our Bertie turns 5 🎉🐾🥕

There was a time when we weren’t even sure he’d make it to this birthday. After his cancer diagnosis, everything felt uncertain. Seeing him now, happy, cheeky and officially in remission, makes today extra special and emotional for us.

To celebrate our birthday boy, we’re launching a very, very exciting new range of home-baked treats and goodies 👀
Keep your eyes peeled for a post later tonight where we’ll reveal all… any guesses?

Please join us in wishing Bertie the happiest of birthdays. He’ll be fussed over even more than usual today (which is saying something 🧡).

Over the last week we have had a huge number of enquiries for both daycare and boarding throughout this year – thank you so much for the continued support 💛

If you are planning a holiday or time away in 2026 and would like your dog to be looked after in our lovely home-from-home, please get in touch as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

We already have several dates fully booked and have unfortunately had to turn some people away.

📅 Our diary is also open for 2027, and we already have some dates fully booked for next year as well.
