Myself and my glamorous assistant got lots of cuddles at our various stops on the way 🥰🥰
Now to pick up our next V.I.Pet in Manchester on route home

🚨🐾 Important Info for Anyone Helping Transport Rescue Pets 🐾🚨

I wanted to share this because it’s something that actually happened recently:
Someone was helping move a rescue dog, got into a crash, and their insurance refused to pay out — leaving them personally liable and the dog at serious risk.

Here’s why ⬇️

✅ If you’re just giving a friend a lift and they cover petrol → this is usually fine under normal insurance.

❌ But if you’re being paid per mile or per trip (e.g. 45p per mile) to transport a rescue or adoption dog → this is classed as hire & reward / commercial transport.

That means you legally need:
• Hire & Reward Insurance
• DEFRA Animal Transport Licence (Type 1 for under 8hrs, Type 2 for over 8hrs)

⚠️ Without these, insurers can refuse claims and authorities can take action (including fines or even pets being seized at ports).

👉 Rule of Thumb:
• Petrol money back = ✅ ok.
• Paid a rate per mile or trip = ❌ commercial, needs proper cover & licence.

Even if it’s “just helping a rescue,” legally it’s seen as commercial because the dog is changing ownership.
We all want to help rescues but please make sure you are legal to do so just in case the worst happens 🐾🐾
