Don't let uninvited guests ruin your summer fun! ☀️

🚫June is officially here, and so is the peak season for fleas and ticks. 🐜

📈Our warm-weather warning to all Hill Park Vet Group families: parasite populations skyrocket this month. These pesky bugs aren't just itchy, they can transmit serious diseases to your furry best friends.

Here is your quick June checklist:
🔍 Feel for bumps: Thoroughly check your pet's skin after walks, especially around the ears, neck, and toes.
🗓️ Check expiry dates: Look at your current preventative packaging to ensure your supplies haven't expired.
📦 Count your doses: Make sure you have enough treatments left to get you through the high-risk summer months.

Don't wait for the scratching to start! Give our friendly team a call or book in to see us today so we can check your pet over and get them safely set up for the sunny season ahead!🐕🐈

With the grass growing taller and the weather getting warmer, pesky parasites are officially on the move. From the garden to the local park, your pets are more likely to encounter unwanted guests this month.

Here is what you need to be on the lookout for:
🕷️ Ticks: These hitchhikers love long grass and woodland. They can carry nasty diseases (like Lyme Disease), so it’s important to check your pet’s skin thoroughly after every walk.
🦟 Fleas: They don’t just stay on your pet; they move into your carpets and furniture too! Prevention is much easier (and cheaper) than dealing with a household infestation.
🐌 Lungworm: If your dog loves exploring the garden, beware of slugs and snails. These can carry lungworm larvae, which can be life-threatening if left untreated.

Stay Protected:
The best way to keep your pet safe is with regular, veterinary-approved preventative treatments. Not sure if your pet is up to date? Give us a message or call the clinic today to check!

Have you found any "hitchhikers" on your pets lately? Let us know if you need help with a removal or a prescription update! 🩺🐾

The May bank holiday is officially here! Whether you’re heading for a scenic coastal stroll, a muddy forest hike, or a world-class nap in the garden, we want to see it all.

Tips for the Perfect Bank Holiday Snap: 📸
✨ Get Down on Their Level: Squat down and take photos from your pet’s eye level. It captures their personality way better and makes for a much more "pro" looking shot!
🍖 The Power of the Snack: Never underestimate the "treat bribe." Hold a high-value snack just above your phone lens to get that perfect, focused head tilt.
💧 Stay Hydrated & Safe: Don't forget to pack a travel bowl! Keep your explorers hydrated and try to avoid midday peaks if it's a scorcher out there.
We’re looking for this weekend’s "Pet of the Match!" 🏆
Drop a photo of your pet’s bank holiday adventures in the comments below. Whether they are king of the mountain or king of the sofa, let’s see those wagging tails and happy whiskers! 👇

Sun Safety: It’s Not Just a Summer Problem! ☀️🐾

With the May sun starting to peek through, it’s easy to think it’s "not hot enough" for heatstroke. But for our pets, even a deceptively mild day can become dangerous quickly.

🌡️ Beware the "Mild" May Days

Pets can’t cool down as efficiently as we can. Humidity and lack of a breeze can cause a dog’s body temperature to spike even when it feels "nice" to us.

🧴 Don't Forget the Sunscreen!
Just like us, pets can get sunburned, which can lead to skin cancer.

Some pets are at much higher risk:

White-eared Cats: Their thin ear skin is extremely sensitive.
Short-haired/White Dogs: Breeds like Bull Terriers or Dalmatians need extra protection.

Thin Fur Areas: Always check noses, bellies, and ear tips.

Pro-Tip: Use only pet-safe sunscreen. Human sunscreens often contain zinc oxide or salicylates, which are toxic if licked!

🛑 Heatstroke Red Flags:
Heavy, frantic panting.
Dark red or "brick-colored" gums.
Lethargy or stumbling.
Excessive drooling.

If you’re worried your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small sips of water, and call us immediately.

Happy Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month! 🐾💙

As we kick off May, we want to shine a bright light on the beating heart of our clinic: our incredible Veterinary Nursing team.

While you might see them at the front desk or during a check-up, their most vital work often happens behind the scenes.

The Power of a Vet Nurse:

Surgical Superstars: They monitor anesthesia, manage vitals, and assist our surgeons with precision.

Recovery Heroes: They are the first faces your pets see waking up—providing heat therapy, pain management, and cuddles.

Expert Caretakers: From taking blood samples to clinical dental work, their skills are vast.

Patient Advocates: They spend hours ensuring every inpatient is comfortable and loved.

⭐ A Legacy of Excellence

We are so proud of the longevity and talent within our nursing family. Some of our team members have been with us as VNs for (checks notes) decades , providing a friendly, familiar face and expert continuity of care for your pets.

Over the years, we’ve also had the privilege of training and working with dozens of amazing VNs who have come through our doors. It’s a point of pride for us to see them now excelling in specialist practices and clinics all across the country. When you join our nursing team, you're joining a legacy of top-tier care!

Next time you see our nurses, join us in saying a huge "thank you!" for everything they do.
