We all have that one thing our trainer is always reminding us about - the small detail that makes a big difference when we finally get it right.

This week, make that your focus.

Whether it’s riding more forward, sitting taller, stable lower leg, or softening your hands - pick one thing and really work on it every ride.

Good riding isn’t about doing everything perfectly; it’s about doing the basics well, over and over again, until they become second nature.

We all love those picture-perfect moments in the saddle - the effortless transitions, the flowing canter, the feeling that everything just “clicks.” But the truth is, training is rarely flawless. It’s messy. It’s awkward. It’s full of small mistakes, frustrations, and days where nothing feels right.

And that’s okay. That’s actually where the magic happens. Every messy moment is a chance to learn, adjust, and grow - both for us and for our horses. Wanting everything to feel amazing all the time sets us up for disappointment, because real progress comes from embracing imperfection.

So, if your ride today felt clunky, if your horse wasn’t quite “with you,” or if the transitions weren’t smooth - celebrate it anyway. You’re moving forward, you’re practicing patience, and you’re building trust and communication. The messy rides are just as valuable as the perfect ones.

💛 Keep going, keep learning, and remember: progress not perfection.

💜 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 doesn’t happen overnight - for horse or rider. It’s something we build, piece by piece, with patience and kindness. Here are my top 10 tips:

1️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 – Master the basics before adding pressure. A solid foundation makes the harder stuff feel possible.

2️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 – Celebrate small wins, they add up fast. Progress is just a series of little victories stacked together.

3️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 – A steady routine builds trust for both of you. Familiar patterns make new challenges less intimidating.

4️⃣ 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲 – Your horse feels your energy. A deep breath can reset everything. A deep breath can reset everything and remind you both to soften.

5️⃣ 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 – Speak to yourself the way you’d encourage a friend. Your mindset shapes your horse’s confidence too.

6️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 – Notice every try, no matter how small. Rewards keep your horse motivated and help you stay positive.

7️⃣ 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 – If something feels big, split it into manageable steps. Small steps prevent overwhelm and create clarity.

8️⃣ 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 – Not the one you had yesterday, or the one you wish for tomorrow. Accepting today builds trust.

9️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 – A trainer, a friend on the ground, or even filming sessions can boost perspective. Sometimes an outside eye spots the wins we miss.

🔟 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻 – Schooling doesn’t have to be serious every day. Play, hack, poles — confidence grows when joy is part of the work.

Confidence is never about being fearless - it’s about trust, partnership, and taking one step at a time 💜

✨ For me, the “secret” to a happy, well-trained horse isn’t really a secret at all - it’s the small things we do every day.

🦄 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 – Horses feel safest when they know what to expect. A clear routine and steady aids help them relax and trust.

🦄 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 – Progress is never a straight line. Some days flow, some days wobble. Giving a horse the time they need always pays off.

🦄 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 – Our horses talk to us constantly. A tail swish, the flick of an ear, a shift in balance, even a deep breath - it’s all communication if we’re open to hearing it.

🦄 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 + 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 – A horse that feels good in their body is a horse that’s happy to work. I love finding ways to quietly build muscle, flexibility, and confidence so the harder work feels easy.

🦄 𝐑𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐲 – The smallest effort is worth noticing. When a horse feels seen and appreciated, that’s when real partnership blossoms.

For me, good training is never just about movements or marks in a test. It’s about creating a horse who feels safe, understood, and proud to do the job alongside us 💜

These principles guide all of my work with horses. If they resonate with you and you’d like to know more about working together, please get in touch 💕

🇬🇧✨ 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐆𝐁 ✨🇬🇧

I can hardly believe I get to write this…

Guapero and Quilate have both been selected to represent Team GB at the MCI European Championships in Le Mans this November! 🇫🇷🐴

For anyone not familiar, the MCI (Masters du Cheval Ibérique) is the dressage circuit for Iberian horses, with classes structured in a similar way to BD (British Dressage):

• Primera = BD Prelim
• Novilla = BD Novice
• Lisboa = BD Medium
• Fandango = BD Advanced Medium

✨ Quilate has qualified for the Primera & Novilla
✨ Guapero has qualified for the Lisboa & Fandango

𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐨 - my heart horse. He has done more for me than I ever dared to dream. Time and again, he gives me everything he has, carrying me further than I thought possible. I will never have the words to thank him enough for the journey he has taken me on and the love he pours into every step ❤️

𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 - Q -what a privilege it is to ride him. He is the most unreal young horse I’ve ever sat on: brave, generous, and full of talent, yet with the kindest soul. To be entrusted with him is the greatest gift. None of this would be possible without his incredible owners, whose unwavering support, belief, and kindness mean more to me than I could ever express 🙏

I also feel so lucky to have had the best team and support around me this year - from family, friends, coaches, owners, and everyone who helps behind the scenes. It’s because of you all that this dream is culminating in me heading to France to represent my country 🇬🇧

To ride down that centre line in Le Mans with these two incredible horses, wearing the GB flag, is a dream come true. I feel humbled, emotional, and so proud - and I cannot wait to give everything for this team ✨

Here’s to chasing dreams, believing in horses, and aiming for Team Gold ✨🐴✨

“𝘐𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘳, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳.” ✨

That’s the truth of dressage. Each level brings new challenges, new lessons, and new opportunities to grow - as a rider and as a partner to your horse. The movements don’t suddenly feel effortless, but you become stronger, sharper, and more in tune every step of the way.

This new account is here to:

✔️ Share tips and insights for climbing the dressage levels

✔️ Inspire consistency, confidence, and resilience in your training

✔️ Celebrate the small wins that add up to big breakthroughs

If you’re ready to keep showing up, keep improving, and keep believing in what you and your horse can achieve - you’re in the right place. 💫
