🚨 The Government’s Animal Welfare Strategy is being released today
We fully support stronger protections for pets.
And we support decisive action against those who exploit animals for financial gain, with no regard for welfare, health, or quality of life.
What’s concerning is that breeders themselves don’t appear to have been meaningfully part of the conversation.
Responsible, ethical breeders are not the problem. They are often the first to challenge poor practices, and many already operate well above minimum standards. When they’re excluded, there’s a real risk of creating rules that look strong on paper but fail to reflect the realities of breeding on the ground.
We haven’t yet seen the final details of the Animal Welfare Strategy, and we don’t want to pre-judge what’s coming. But we do want to say this clearly:
You don’t improve animal welfare through regulation alone.
You improve it by backing good breeders, just as firmly as you clamp down on bad ones.
We’ll be following the announcement closely and sharing updates as details become available.
If you’re a responsible breeder, your voice matters. Feel free to share this with your breeder communities or add your thoughts in the comments.
