Michael is looking for his forever home 🏡❤️

You may remember a number of weeks ago we put a post on about this gorgeous boy being handed into us. We had no one ring about him so legally we are now allowed to rehome him.

What you may notice is that he is currently recovering after having one of his front legs amputated. This was done as he had a recurrent abscess that was not healing and causing infection and discomfort for him. This was in his best interest and Swale as an independent practice have funded his treatment ourselves. It is healing lovely and his stitches are due to be removed in around 10 days time. Having 3 legs does not cause any issues long term and he is coping amazingly.

Michael is a gorgeous cat, has shown no nastiness and adores a good fuss!! We have paid for him to be checked for FIV and FeLV- of which he is negative. He is castrated. He currently has no microchip so the new owners will need to be prepared to pay for him to be microchipped before he leaves the practice and we would also ask he re-starts his vaccinations and continues any long term treatment at the practice. There will be a contract that the new owners will need to sign before he leaves.

We are unsure what he would be like with a dog or with another cat, so would prefer he went to a home without any other pets.

If you are interested in rehoming Michael then please ring the practice on 01748 826600 to speak to one of the nurses. If we have a number of people interested we would pick who we think would be best suited to him, again this is for his best interest.

Thank you and Michael can’t wait to meet his new family ❤️

With cases of equine influenza continuing to be reported in the UK, we are reminding vets to discuss implementing six monthly boosters with clients, especially those planning to travel for competition this summer.

👉 We recommend that practices share our six monthly booster infographic with members through all channels, download it here - https://bit.ly/4e4ztOa

FOUND!!

We have had a cat handed in by a member of the public after he was found lying at the side of the road between Dalton and Gayles this evening. He seems like an older boy, ginger, male (neutered) and unfortunately no chip. He is a little weak and bedraggled but tucking into food and enjoying a fuss. If you think you may know who he belongs to please give us a call at the surgery on 01748 826600 during the usual hours.

Meet Millie…

Seeing as we are in Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month we thought we’d take the opportunity to introduce our newest nurse, Millie.

Millie qualified as an RVN in July 2022 and completed her BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing the year after, achieving a first.

At work Millie particularly enjoys inpatient care, animal behaviour and confidence clinics. She says the most rewarding part of her job is when she befriends a nervous or misunderstood animal.

In her spare time Millie likes to watch live music, play netball, bake and explore new places with her dog Mavis.

We’re really pleased to have Millie on board and know she’ll fit right in.

✨⭐️ Vet Nurse Awareness Month ⭐️✨

Each May the BVNA (British Veterinary Nursing Association) runs the Veterinary Nursing Awareness month campaign to highlight the crucial work done by our Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs).

We are lucky at Swale Vets to have an incredibly dedicated team of 7 RVNs, 1 Student VN and a Veterinary Care Assistant.

Did you know our RVNs carry out a huge range of roles in the practice including:

🐶 Monitoring anaesthetics during operations
🐾 Consulting - This can include a variety of appointments such as blood sampling, nail clips, microchipping, post operative checks, weight clinics and diabetic monitoring appointments
🐱 Caring for hospitalised patients, giving them their medications and food, monitoring their vital parameters and ensuring they are comfortable and clean
🐶 Running lab tests
🐾 Taking X-rays
🐱 Cleaning and sterilising surgical equipment
🐶 Formulating plans for nutritional care
🐾 Wound management
And much more!

Here is a picture of RVNs Laura, Victoria and Amy with the very handsome Wilf having just completed his blood donation when we had a poorly patient in need.

Watch out for more coming up about our fabulous nurses.

The best way to protect your dog is with regular vaccinations throughout their life. Unvaccinated dogs are at risk and it is usually fatal without intensive treatment. Check with your vet today if your dog’s vaccinations are up to date.
