A few of the lovely puppers who helped me test out my new photo corner this week 🥰

After dropping a few very subtle hints ("I'd really like to do the walking with wolves experienceat Predator Park, Cumbria...and here'sthe link" 🤣), my husband bought me a voucher for my birthdayearlier this month. (Booking it was apparently my job! 😂)

What an experience! I got to walk with a pack of beautiful grey wolves, spend time in their enclosure and hear them howl.

Of course, whilst everyone else was probably admiring their teeth, I was looking at... their paws. 🤦‍♀️😂

"Do wolves ever need their nails trimming?"

Honestly... only a dog groomer would ask that! 🤣

I do wonder what the wolves made of me though...

"This human smells suspiciously of shampoo, conditioner... and about a hundred other dogs" however they were still happy to very gently take treats from my hands.

Honestly these beautiful creatures were a million times more polite than my crazy doodle bug Blue....I still wouldn't fancy popping them in the bath or trimming their nails though :)

It's that time of year again. Seems every time I take Blue dog for a walk, she comes home wearing half the field with little 'sticky balls' and grass seeds from head to toe!

Whilst the swamponster look is cute, grass seeds are more than just annoying. Their pointed, dart-like shape means they can work their way into paws, ears, eyes and noses, causing painful injuries that often need veterinary treatment.

The good news is that a quick once-over after every walk can often catch them before they become a problem. Take a moment to check between your dog's toes, around their ears, under their armpits and through any longer feathering.

Gently checking all over your dog , with lots of praise and encouragement after every walk also has the added bonus of helping your dog to be comfortable with handling which can really help with vet and groomer visits 😀

Meet Rumi. 💙🐾

This gorgeous boy came in for another puppy session today, and every visit is another little step forward.

For a puppy, a grooming salon is a whole new world. New sounds, new smells, new people and lots of new experiences.

Taking things one step at a time gives puppies the chance to build confidence, so grooming becomes something familiar rather than something to worry about.

Rumi was an absolute star today...
..because confidence isn't built in a day—it's built one positive experience at a time. 💙

One of my favourite parts of the day is watching dogs relax enough to just be themselves.

Today's entertainment came courtesy of Lexi... who celebrated her bath with a little run around, enjoyed a gentle breeze from the dryer and then sat beautifully to finish her .

I think she was quite pleased with herself... and rightly so. 🥰

Exciting news!

Little Miss Hattie's story😍

Hattie was a little nervous of being groomed, in fact when she first arrived at the salon she put her brakes on and said a definite no!

With a little bit of coaxing, mum got her to come in.

As is normal for Treat and greet sessions, her lead was removed to allow Hattie to explore. Hattie used the opportunity to bolt straight under mums chair and that's where she was staying!

Hattie normally likes her treats but she wasn't coming out even with a treat thrown on the floor.

After a bit of a chat with mum, I learnt that Hattie really likes other dogs. The Blue dog was on site, in her bed so, I popped her on her lead and carefully brought her out to meet Hattie.

Hattie seemed excited but she still wasn't coming out of her chair, Blue (in her usual way) said 'oh there's a dog in, now can you throw the ball for me human?'

So I played with Blue for a bit. Hattie seemed to take the fact that Blue was confidently playing with me in the salon as a sign of safety and out she popped to say hello to me 😍 and Blue was popped back in her bed.

Hattie came for a 6 session package with mum. Where we gradually introduced each element of grooming, keeping sessions within Hattie's level of acceptance.

Today, Hattie charged up to the salon, tail wagging and had her first full groom and with a little bit of help from Mum (and Blue), she rocked it, and left the salon today still wagging that cute tail!

Well done Hattie (and yes Blue, payment of a game with you ball will be given)!

🥵 Well... that was a bit of a scorcher!

As I sat melting this week, I got to thinking about all the questions groomers get at this time of year: "Can we go a bit shorter?" ☀️✂️

There's no one-size-fits-all answer, so I thought I'd put together a few things to consider when choosing a summer trim for your dog.

I hope you find it useful

☀️ A little update during the warm weather... ☀️

The salon itself stays lovely and cool thanks to its insulated construction, concrete floors, fans and air conditioning. I've also switched to cooler bathing water and turned the heat off the dryers to help keep every dog as comfortable as possible during their groom.

For some dogs, however, the biggest challenge isn't being in the salon—it's travelling to and from their appointment in the heat.

If you're booked in over the next few days and you're concerned about your dog's journey, please don't worry. Just send me a message and we'll happily look at moving your appointment to a cooler day.

I'm also opening up a limited number of evening appointments over the coming weeks for anyone who would prefer a cooler time of day for their dog's groom. These won't appear on the online booking system, so please message me directly if you'd like to enquire about availability.

As always, every dog is different, and I'll always do my best to help you make the choice that's right for your dog. 💙🐾
