🐢🦎🐍 At Shell-Tur we rescue and re-home turtles, reptiles, and other exotic animals to provide them with a loving home & sanctuary, some of them are often found released in the wild or being housed in unsuitable accommodation. We are based in Berkshire and have been running for over 7 years, We have rescued a

nd re-homed over
2 Thousand animals and operate across 3 different bases. We will rescue turtles, reptiles, other exotics, fish, and small mammals. We have a passion for conservation, protection of endangered species, and providing education surrounding animal welfare and correct husbandry. We also provide advice and guidance worldwide to both private owners and pet stores. We aim to expand our humble rescue and sanctuary to provide space for many more rescues to come, provide solace and respite for those with life-limiting and terminal illnesses, whilst also providing therapeutic services to those living with disability or mental illness, and offer voluntary opportunity to ex-offenders. Also a we want to offer a place where these animals can be seen and too educate anyone that is interested in knowing more about Animal Behaviours and Requirements. We have also done events consisting of Handling days, Pet Talks, Schools, Birthday parties & Weddings. We have too apologise for our lack of activity on this page. We are currently juggling the rescue, personal projects and health is causing a few road bumps.

We have to ethically say we are at capacity here for new residents. We are only going to offer board to the urgent requests. We say this because we believe deep down that it would be unfair on any new residents to get stressed by potentially overcrowding an enclosure. That also puts our babies at risk of stress that have been here for years.

We offer nothing but the highest care and love for these animals and we are not putting any of their at livleyhood risk for our own popularity or boosting egos.

We hate having to say no as we wish we could save them all. But in the real world we've promised to look after the ones here and our loyalties lay with them.

Now this doesn't mean we aren't going to be active. Quite the opposite infact. We will continue to share updates on all your favourite babies and stories you have all been invested in.

We do have contacts that offer the same amount of care as we do and can act as a middleman to bridge that gap for you and make the transition go smoothly.

We will only offer board to EMERGENCIES that need attention and we will then sort with other licensed locations for furure board.

We hope you can understand this and please continue to support us. Follow along and stay, for our journey togther is far from over.

No matter how dry it gets Morkeys "wild instincts" will always find the succulent peices of plant.

In Africa sulcatas will readily find "juicier" plants in arid landscapes for hydration but ... it serves another purpose. The water in these plants help the tortoises bowl movements but also their stomach acid will strip the "flesh" from some plants and leave the seeds which will then be "layed" in fresh stools provided with water and decomposed matter for fertilisation. Ready to help the landscape each tortoise poo at a time.

So we did a bit of examining on a new arrival to the rescue to see if this was healed damage to the shell but we have come to a conclusion its a actually deformity in the shell design otherwise known as a turtles "birthmark". We want a pretty name to match this beautiful disarrayment of the shell scutes ... anyone have any ideas ?

A freindly reminder to say its ok to turn our overhead heatspots off during this heatwave, as much as we're depicted to be sunbathing all the time we also dont like to be cooked and will readily seek out cooler spots during the hottest part of the day in the wild 😘.

Pro tip - check on your species durability to higher temps and if you need to cool water then its manual 50% water changes, bottle of frozen water to help maintain a nice comfortable living soace for turtles. Water in small setups heat up quick. If your pond is outdoors offer depths to offer cooler sleeping spots and also have atleast 50% of water surface and basking area in the shade.
