✨Thermotherapy vs cryotherapy✨

Thermotherapy is the application of heat. The benefits are mostly associated with vasodilation and include:
🔥muscle relaxation
🔥increased blood flow
🔥reduction of stiffness and spasm

Cryotherapy is the application of cold. The benefits include:
🧊reduce inflammation and swelling
🧊turning down of pain signals
🧊improve healing of injury

Both modalities have different purposes and must be clinically relevant to the scenario; however they both increase the release of endorphins resulting in reduced pain and improved mood!

A combination of manual and electrotherapies🥇

It’s peak competition season so our horses may be working a little harder than normal! Regular physiotherapy sessions can help keep them feeling comfortable and supple so they can perform their best. I have limited availability for August - drop me a message to get booked in🐴

⚡️Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)⚡️

TENS uses low voltage electrical currents, which create a pump in the muscle (as seen in this clip). This muscle pump increases blood flow and encourages the release of endorphins, creating a pain relieving effect whilst aiding muscle relaxation.

TENS machines are relatively inexpensive and straightforward to apply, therefore can be used by the owner regularly, between therapy sessions.

My diary is starting to look busy for the summer, so don’t hesitate to get in touch to book in. Just a reminder that I offer a discount when treating 3+ horses on the same yard.

Meet Keith✨

Keith is a lovely 20 years young gelding I see for regular maintenance sessions. He sustained an injury when he was younger, so regular physiotherapy sessions help him to stay comfortable!

You can see in this clip how much he enjoys his sessions, with soft half closed eyes and a relaxed muzzle whilst releasing some tension in his lumbar region😌

If you think physiotherapy could help your pet don’t hesitate to get in touch!🐴🐶

⭐️Lateral Tail Pulls⭐️

Lateral tail pulls are such a versatile exercise to incorporate into physiotherapy sessions, home strengthening programmes and rehabilitation.

Lateral tail pulls have many benefits:
- myosfasicial release stretch
- improve balance
- increase proprioception
- create core engagement
- encourage even weight bearing
- muscle activation and strengthening

In this video, you can see the quadriceps and biceps muscles engaging to counter balance the tail pull. This was an exercise I left this mares owner with to aid strengthening of stabilising muscles.

I still have some afternoon and weekend availability this month - message me to get booked in!
