This handsome, soft Rottweiler came to visit us at Vets4Pets today because of his swollen eye. Despite being poorly, he was so happy to see Makis the Vet and get his eye drops.
Did you know? Fun Facts About Rottweilers! 🐾
Rottweilers are so much more than just a big, powerful dog. These gentle giants have a fascinating history and a lot of heart!
* Roman Roots: Their ancestors were the loyal drover dogs of the Roman legions. They herded cattle for the troops as they marched across Europe, basically acting as a food source on four legs!
* The "Butcher's Dog": They earned the name "Rottweiler Metzgerhund" (Rottweil butcher's dog) in Germany. Why? Because they were famous for driving cattle to market and even pulling carts laden with meat!
* Not a Biter, but a Holder: Instead of being bred to bite and attack, their strong jaws were originally for gripping and holding large animals. They're naturally protective but their instinct is to control a situation, not to be overly aggressive.
* Wagging Their Way to You: A Rottweiler's tail is naturally long and expressive! The docking of their tails is a tradition that's been largely phased out, but if you see a Rottie with a long tail, you'll get to see their full range of happy wags!
* Smarty Paws: They're known for being intelligent and highly trainable. They excel at everything from obedience to search and rescue. In fact, they're often used as police and military dogs!
