🐾Don't just take our word for it! 🐾

- Recent research has shown that dogs with moderate to severe paresis of their hind legs receiving physiotherapy alongside medication had significant progress in their recovery when compared to those who did not.

- This study also indicates that physiotherapy can sometimes be a suitable alternative to medicine, showing improved symptoms for some dogs who were not responding to medical treatment.

Is your dog struggling with a spinal condition and you think physiotherapy could help? Feel free to pop us a message or give us a call. We would be happy to discuss!

Ilisca and her fabulous ears! 🐾

Ilisca was referred by the neuro team at following hemilaminectomy surgery.

In the early days, Ilisca was paraplegic. She regained her hindlimb movement but was still quite weakened.

Ilisca has been receiving regular physiotherapy with an exercise plan designed for her needs as well as incorporating underwater treadmill therapy with !

Fast forwards to now and Ilisca has been gradually building up her strength, and is starting to be able to navigate complex movements.

Due to the commitment of her amazing mum, Ilisca is also back to being able to enjoy her walking routine comfortably!

I look forward to seeing Ilisca’s further progress 💪

What lovely weather we are having! ☀️

With higher temps this week, just a reminder for this weeks sessions:

- Please keep your dog nice and cool in shady areas or indoors. We don’t want overheated and stressed doggies! 🥵

- Provide plenty of water that they can get to if needed 💧

-As ever, sessions are at your pet’s pace. If they are getting too hot to focus on exercises or certain treatments, we will adapt to gentler sessions 🐾

Celebrating some great progress this week 🥳

🐾 Meet Jon Snow, a lovely, lively boy who was referred by for management of his spinal condition.

Since starting his physio plan, Jon has come leaps and bounds with his strength, helping him to enjoy more time doing what he loves! ⭐️

With the commitment of his amazing mum as well as hydrotherapy with the lovely ladies at Wickham , Jon who was a very wobbly boy, has gained enough strength to handle more complex exercises such as the wobble platform.

Well done Jon, super-dog! 👏

✨Why we love heat therapy at Furapy ✨

We all know how soothing heat can be for our tissues and joints. Did you know it can also really benefit our pets?

At Furapy, we use heat therapy as part of our physiotherapy treatment plans to help pets recover comfortably and move better.

When applied correctly, targeted heat can:
🐾Increase circulation to promote healing
🐾 Relax tense muscles before manual therapy or stretching
🐾 Reduce joint stiffness in arthritic or post-op patients
🐾 Provide pain relief and comfort during rehabilitation

Heat therapy is a great and simple therapy for our pets —it prepares the body for hands-on techniques and relaxes your pet, making treatment more effective and less stressful.

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, your senior cat is managing arthritis, or your pet has a chronic mobility issue, heat therapy may be part of their personalized care at Furapy.

🐾 Patellar Luxation - What is it, and could your pet be showing signs of having it? 🐾

🐕 Affecting an estimated 1.3% of the canine population (over 202,000 dogs in the UK), patellar luxation is the displacement of the kneecap (patella) from it's usual position.

🐕This is often developmental, but can be a result of trauma also. Breeds most at risk include Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers and Toy Poodles.

Signs often include:

🐾 A hopping or skipping movement when your dog walks or trots
🐾The leg may get stuck in a locked out position. This can be corrected with manipulation or the dog may correct itself
🐾Stiffness may be seen in affected legs. Particularly following long periods of rest.
🐾Visual popping movements of the patella may be seen when your dog is moving
🐾Some struggling to get comfortable sitting or laying down

Has your dog been showing any of these signs? Let's take action!

👩‍⚕️First, make sure you visit your vet. They can assess your dog, discuss either a surgical or non-surgical plan that suits your dog.

After this, speak to your vet about physiotherapy. Tailored treatment and exercise plans can help keep your dog's strength and mobility while preventing further associated conditions such as osteoarthritis and cruciate disease at bay!
