π DUE to a huge amount of enquiries recently from owners wishing to join classes to help with their dogs that are either reactive, aggressive or barking excessively at other dogs/people. Iβm letting you all know that we can definitely help with these issues but a 6 week course giving you the skills to teach your dog recall, loose lead walking etc is not going to help with these behaviour issues. We as experienced experts think of your dog first and it also wouldnβt be fair to put your dog in a class environment and expect them to cope. If you need help with these issues please check out our website

πΎ Understanding the Difference Between a Dog Trainer and a Behaviourist.
π€·π»ββοΈ I've noticed there's often confusion between the roles of dog trainers and behaviourists, so I wanted to shed some light on the differences and why it's crucial to be a trainer before becoming a behaviourist.
π© Dog Trainer:
A dog trainer focuses on teaching dogs specific skills and cues, such as sit, stay, come, and heel. They work on basic obedience, manners, and sometimes even advanced tricks. The goal is to help dogs and their owners communicate effectively, making daily life more enjoyable and manageable.
πβπ¦Ί Behaviourist:
A behaviourist, on the other hand, deals with more complex behavioural issues, such as aggression, barking, reactivity, anxiety, phobias, and compulsive behaviours. They delve into the root causes of these issues, which can be related to the dog's environment, past experiences, or even medical conditions. Behaviourists use their deep understanding of canine psychology to create customised behaviour modification plans.
βΉοΈ Why You Need to Be a Trainer First:
β
Foundation of Skills: Training provides a solid foundation in understanding how dogs learn and respond to cues. This knowledge is crucial when addressing more complex behavioural issues.
β
Practical Experience: Training gives you hands-on experience with a variety of dogs, each with unique personalities and challenges. This exposure is invaluable when transitioning to behaviour modification, where a nuanced understanding of different dogs' behaviours is essential.
β
Effective Communication: As a trainer, you learn how to communicate with both dogs and their owners. This skill is vital for a behaviourist who needs to convey complex concepts and strategies to owners to ensure consistent and effective behaviour modification.
β
Problem-Solving Skills: Training helps develop critical problem-solving skills that are necessary for a behaviourist to create and implement effective treatment plans for behavioural issues.
βΉοΈ In summary, becoming a skilled dog trainer is a crucial first step toward becoming a successful behaviourist. It ensures you have the practical knowledge, experience, and communication skills needed to address and resolve more complex behavioural problems effectively.
