Ever wondered what goes into your pets dental procedure? Dental procedures are far more than a simple scale and polish. They are comprehensive treatment performed under general anaesthesia to ensure your pet’s safety, comfort, and a thorough oral assessment🪥🦷
Whats included?
1. Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment:
Your pet receives a full clinical examination, and blood tests may be recommended to ensure they are fit for anaesthesia.
2. Anaesthesia & Monitoring:
General anaesthesia allows safe, pain-free treatment and a complete examination of the teeth, including below the gumline. A trained Registered Veterinary Nurse closely monitors vital signs throughout.
3. Dental X-Rays:
As much of the tooth lies beneath the gumline, dental radiographs are essential to detect hidden infection, bone loss, or resorptive lesions, particularly in cats.
4. Scale, Polish & Extractions:
Plaque and tartar are removed from above and below the gumline, followed by polishing to slow future build-up. Severely diseased or painful teeth may require surgical extraction, with appropriate pain relief and suturing to aid healing.
5. How Long Does It Take?
Procedure times vary depending on disease severity. A routine dental may take 45–90 minutes, while more advanced cases requiring multiple X-rays and extractions can take 2–3 hours or longer. Each treatment is tailored to the individual pet’s needs🐾
