Its with a heavy heart I share the sad news of handsome boy, Patrick crossing rainbow bridge.
I've known Patrick for 7 years now. Once upon a time, when I'd have my visits with him and his brother Gary, Patrick was a bit of dirty stop out. He was always off gallivanting, picking fights with other cats and wandering all the way back to his old house leaving me and Gary alone at meal times. Much to the nusiance of his family at times I'm sure. After Gary sadly passed a few years back, Patrick changed, he never roamed as far and while he still loved being outdoors he also do his infamous scratch at the door more frequently for a cuddle, to hang out, pester for food, catch some Zs or steal Bruce's bed.
Patrick had the patience of a saint when it came to his beast of a brother, Bruce. Bruce enjoys nothing more than chasing him around to play, trying to pin him and then air hump the space in between the size difference. And Patrick, would tolerate it so much better than I know most cats would. Though of course even Patrick had his limits when it came being mounted by the equivalent of a shire horse. I can picture the exasperation on his face now, when he'd smack Bruce on the snout.
He was easily one of the sweetest cats I've ever met. He wasn't overly affectionate, or not with me but he would love his bedtime cuddles, often keeping me awake on our sleepovers by tapping me with his unsheathed paw to get me to continue petting him. While it sounds vicious, he was so gentle about it, just using enough claw to get my attention without scratching the skin. Or keeping me awake by screaming during the witching hour.
I say all this in sorrowful jest. While at the time these quirks may be a nusiance or in my case, tiring, they will be the biggest things I miss. And I know it will be the same for his family.
I want to send my love and thoughts to them during this time. From a kitten to a 17 year old, he has not known a day without love because of them. I would also like to thank them for allowing me to be his Aunty Mieke all these years, he has always been an absolute gentleman.
Patrick, thank you for all the cuddles, lost sleep and laughs. You have always been an absolute delight to spend time with. Mine and Bruce's sleepovers will never be the same, but feel free to come and wake me up at 3am from time to time. Give Gary a face rub from me, sleep tight handsome boy 🖤🤍
