It’s common for owners of shouty barky dogs to feel that nothing is ever going to change. It’s OK for you to feel stuck too.

Nearly everyone that books a training strategy call with me has tried training before and it hasn’t worked. Or it’s worked to begin with and then the barking and/or lunging has got worse.

They’ve tried taking treats out, they’ve tried doing canine enrichment. They’ve nearly all yelled at their dog, and some of them have tried tools like prong collars or slip leads.

And none of it works because the underlying problem is fear and anxiety.

To overcome fear and anxiety we need calm confidence building, in a safe space, and that’s what I’m offering in The Calmer Canines Launchpad.

This is what Erica said about her experience on the course with her reactive Poodle Freddie. She wrote this after she’d just got back from a caravan holiday that she’d been dreading, and that had gone so much better than she’d expected because of the work she’d put in on the course.

“I have really enjoyed the 10 week Calmer Canines course.

What I realised early on is that Stephie's mission is to educate dog owners, helping them to understand dog language and teach them the skills to build trust and a close bond with your dog.

Stephie teaches you how to de stress your dog before working on strategies to help them through their stressful triggers.

The aim is for you to work through the program with your dog, building up understanding as you go. I have learned so much about Freddie and I feel he and I have a really close bond now.

The course material is available on line during and after the course and Stephie's weekly teaching and support sessions are excellent. The course is very interactive and it's really nice to be in a group of like minded dog owners who are trying to learn more. I got so much from listening to others.

Stephie is passionate about teaching owners about their dogs. She is completely dedicated to supporting you through your journey with your dog and has a wealth of knowledge and experience to tap in to.”

The Calmer Canines Launchpad

When your dog is STILL barking and lunging…

When you’ve tried everything, and nothing is working…

When you’re embarrassed and scared, and you’re exhausted by your dog, and you’re exhausted by everyone muscling in telling you what to do…

You need The Calmer Canines Launchpad.

https://www.thoughtfulpaws.co.uk/courses/the-calmer-canines-course-sept-2021

The reason the things you’ve tried so far haven’t worked is that your dog isn’t in the right headspace to learn. They’re too busy firefighting to pay any attention to the lessons.

That’s why what you’ve tried so far hasn’t worked, and instant relief is what you get when you join me next week. Getting your dog in the right place to be able to learn is ESSENTIAL.

The Calmer Canines Launchpad is a 10 week course, and we start by looking at how to slow down our dog’s thinking so that they can make better, more rational decisions. We make absolutely sure that our dogs are in the right mindset to learn, and that we’re in the right mindset to teach.

Next we work out EXACTLY what it is that it our dogs are worried about. We turn detective, drilling down into the details, and then I’ll help you to break those things down into smaller, more manageable chunks.

Then we look at how we’re going to help our dogs to learn that those things are not so scary after all. And we do that by going out on missions to find the gremlins on our terms, with our calmer heads on.

I’ll help you to plan out your missions, and I’ll help you to review and refine them once you’ve been out and completed them.

The course is entirely online, and if you’re wondering how that can possibly work, let me tell you that it absolutely does! Not just for my clients that live over 2000 miles away from me, but also for those that live less than 1/2 a mile away. Just today one of my local clients today chose to continue working online next week rather than in person, because it works so well.

Back to the course:
We have one zoom group class each week on a Wednesday at 8pm UK time, with two weeks off part way through to catch up and to practice. Believe me, by weeks 5 and 8 you’ll be glad to get a week off to consolidate what you’ve learnt so far!

I’m still around during those weeks in our amazing private community group, and you get the support of everyone else in that small group too. Just knowing that you’re not alone, and sharing stories with each other, is worth its weight in gold.

Oh, and don’t worry if you’re not available on a Wednesday evening because it’s all recorded and available afterwards on replay.

What else can I tell you?
All your learning material is kept in a snazzy online classroom that you can access at any time, and there are videos and worksheets in there to help you to consolidate your learning.

And at the end of the 10 weeks you get to keep everything in the classroom and you get stay in the group too.

And then next time I run the course, you get to join in again if you need to, because not everyone progresses at the same rate, and I don’t want anyone to feel that they have to rush.

It’s a really cosy experience, with only 15 places on the course so that I can give everyone the attention that they need and deserve.

This is the last time I’ll be running the course this year, so if you want to take your training to the next level, click the link and sign up quick!

When you're out with your shouty barky dog, and suddenly there's a scary gremlin ahead of you...

Asking our dogs to sit and look at us, or sit and look at the gremlin, rarely works - because who can sit still when there are gremlins around and the adrenaline is coursing and the body is screaming fight or flight?

So, until we've taught our dogs that gremlins are actually super cute and friendly, we need to teach our dogs that the flight option is a good one. Make use of the sudden excess energy provided by the adrenaline, and MOVE.

One of the simplest and important games that you can teach your dog is an emergency u-turn on cue.

I use the cue "Let's Go", some people use "This Way" or you could even use "Gremlins". The key thing is that your cue is 2 syllables and said in a clear, light and fun voice.

Choose a new cue if your dog ignores the one you've already got.

The most important part of this exercise is that we practice it every single day. Practice when there are no scary gremlins around - in the kitchen, the garden, the street. For every one time that you use your new cue for real, use it another 6 times in play.

Why so much practice? We don't want the u-turn cue to become associated with gremlins, we want it to stay a fun and exciting game to play.

How to teach it? Pat your leg, raise your energy levels, and move with your dog! You don't need treats, just the act of energetic movement will be reward enough - providing you play often, without the scary gremlins around.

Do you already do this? Does it work for you? What cue do you use?

FREE MINI MASTERCLASS TONIGHT!

If you're on my mailing list and your came to one of my recent masterclasses, you'll have had an email from me asking for help in identifying

- the biggest takeaways from my free masterclass, and
- the areas that you need the most help with.

and so many of you replied 🙂

The big themes coming through are:
- What do we do when we can't avoid the triggers?
- How do we know when our dogs are ready to learn?
- And what do we do next?

These are such great questions!

I have an hour free tonight so I'm going to put on an impromptu mini-masterclass to talk these points, in my calmer canines facebook group.

🔥 So please come along at 8pm UK time (12 noon Pacific, 3pm Eastern)

🔥 tonight Wednesday 25th August,

🔥 and join in the mini-masterclass.

Making time for calming activities together with our dogs is massively important for our combined mental health.

I bet you've done some without even knowing! Did you snuggle quietly with your dog today? Did you do a puzzle toy together? Did you take a nap with your dog?

Tell me!

** Free Masterclass: How to Stop Your Dog Barking When Treats Don't Work **

"Treat training doesn’t work for me. He won’t do a thing I say. It’s like I don’t exist."

Does this resonate? Read on my friend, I have a solution for you - and it's free!

There’s so much conflicting information out there - according to google we have to “tell them who’s boss” “ignore the bad” “get better treats” “buy more equipment” “baby them” “don’t baby them”... it’s no wonder we struggle!

Meanwhile, the unpredictability is confusing, and it’s scary.

We love our dogs like a family members, and the last thing we want is for things to get any worse.

But it doesn't have to be like this. I’m here to show you a different way.

* One that involves building co-operation, confidence and curiosity.

* One that slows down thinking, so that the dog is able to make calm and rational decisions by themselves instead of leaping straight to fight mode.

And this is the bit that’s been missing in all of your training so far. This is the bit that NO-ONE ELSE IS TELLING YOU.

The secret with our sensitive dogs is making sure that they're in the right headspace to learn before we begin. Then, and only then, can we teach them that those scary things are not so scary after all.

I'm Stephie Guy, Dog Trainer and Canine Mindset Coach, owner and founder of Thoughtful Paws Dog Training and in the picture with me is my lovely boy Mickle, and we are here to help.
