"The dogs don't care."

The dogs don't care how many followers we have.
The dogs don't care if the video gets 10 views or 10,000.
The dogs don't care what training trend is fashionable this week.

They care about feeling safe.
They care about having fun.
They care about sniffing that patch of grass that apparently contains the secrets of the universe.

Maybe that's why I like dogs so much.

They have a remarkable ability to remind us what actually matters.

The strongest connection in my house isn't the WiFi.

It's the one sitting next to me on the sofa.

And honestly, that's the connection I never want to lose.

Next puppy course is already filling up, only 3 places remaining.

This is likely to be our last puppy course until September/October.

"The magic isn't usually in one big moment. It's in the hundreds of little ones."

This afternoon I spent a few hours cutting grass, strimming and generally tidying up Waggy Tails Field and the meadow.

As I was working, I found myself thinking about how much this place is like dog training.

Quite often people tell me how lucky I am to have somewhere like this.

What many didn't see was the beginning.

The very overgrown and wild fields.
The lack of fencing.
The endless jobs list.
The mistakes.
The things that had to be redone.
The evenings spent working when everyone else had gone home.

It didn't appear overnight, it evolved.

A bit at a time.
At a pace I could manage.
Some ideas worked brilliantly.
Some didn't.
Some areas became something completely different to what I originally planned.

Dog training is often exactly the same.

We can look at where we want to get to and forget how far we've already come and then realise that actually some of it was not as important as we may have first thought.

The magic isn't usually in one big moment, it's in the hundreds of little ones.

And now, when I look around, I don't just see a field and a meadow.

I see dogs relaxing.
Dogs learning.
People gaining confidence.
Friendships being made.
Humans taking a breath and slowing down for a while.

It's become a very special place.

And the best part?

Just like dog training, it's still evolving.

Still growing.
Still a work in progress.

Why Scentwork?

Because your dog already comes with all the equipment they need.

No special talent required.
No perfect recall needed.
No "sit", "stay" or "heel" required.

Just a nose, a curious dog, and a human willing to step back and watch them work their magic.

Scentwork is enriching, confidence building, calming, rewarding and, quite frankly, a lot of fun. It allows dogs to use the superpower nature gave them whilst strengthening the bond between dog and human.

Why do it with SkellyWags?

Because we keep it simple.

No pressure.
No competition.
No grades.

Just relaxed, supportive training where dogs can learn, explore and succeed at their own pace.

If you've ever wanted to understand your dog a little better, trust them a little more, and have a lot of fun along the way, our Scentwork Introductions could be just the thing.

Here is a little message for the humans at the other end of the lead.

Today has been full of puppy conversations.

Biting.
Toilet training.
Sleep.
Zoomies.
Chewing.
The usual puppy things.

What often doesn't get talked about enough is how the humans are doing.

Puppyhood can be wonderful, it can also be exhausting!

It is okay to feel overwhelmed.
It is okay to wonder if you're getting it right.
It is okay to miss having a hot cup of tea, an uninterrupted meal or a full night's sleep.

Having those feelings doesn't mean you love your puppy any less.

The truth is that raising a puppy is not just about helping them grow. It changes us too. It asks for patience, kindness, consistency and more than a little sense of humour.

So if today has felt hard, please know you're not alone.

Your puppy doesn't need you to be perfect.

They don't need the person from social media.

They just need you.

Showing up.
Learning together.
Making mistakes together.
Building a bond one day at a time.

And whilst we often "Say It's All About The Dogs" here at SkellyWAGS, we're on your side too.

Because behind every happy dog is a human doing far better than they often give themselves credit for.

Progress, not perfection.
For both ends of the lead.

Well the new intake of puppies at class this morning certainly had to deal with the elements as did we!

Start of the class was a little overcast but had stopped raining and there was a gentle breeze, we then had a bit of drizzle, then an absolute downpour and then bright blue sky and sunny. The pups took it all in their stride and smashed their first class at the field.

Hopefully next weeks weather will be a bit more predictable and I will get some more photos as week 2 is when we set up the confidence course, always a big hit with the puppies.

Well done you lovely pups and humans of course.

Last weekend:
"How can I keep cool?"

This weekend:
"Where did I put my waterproofs?"

Typical British weather.

But here's a little thing to remember.

Just because the sun has gone into hiding doesn't mean the humidity has.

You know when you say:
"It's really muggy today" or "I'm sweating in this raincoat!"

Well, us dogs notice that too.

When the air is heavy and humid, it can be harder for us to cool ourselves down, even if the temperature looks much kinder than it did last weekend.

So while you're digging out the waterproofs and wondering if summer has been cancelled, spare a thought for your four legged friend too.

The weather may have changed its outfit, but humidity is still hiding in plain sight.

The world tells us to go faster.

Get more done.
Be more successful.
Work harder.
Keep up.

Yet most of the best things in life happen when we slow down enough to notice them.

A conversation.
A laugh.
A sunrise.
A wagging tail.
A quiet cup of coffee.
A Bert with weeds stuck to him!

Maybe the secret isn't getting more from life.

Maybe it's noticing more of the life we already have.
