Plodding Pooches is a dog walking and pet sitting service located in Offenham offering one to one and group dog walks and pet sitting services for when you are at work or on holiday. Fully insured and trained in canine first aid, your dog will be in very capable hands. Dogs are social animals and require communication and contact with people throughout their day otherwise they will soon start to d

isplay behaviour that many people find troublesome. A daily walk is a good way of giving your dog stimulation and the exercise they need, keeping your dogs mind and body active is the best way to keep them happy and healthy. Plodding Pooches is a personal pet care service ran by Jacquie Holmes. Based in Offenham she offers dog walking and pet care to local villages, whilst having experience walking a variety of breeds big and small Jacquie also has qualifications in Dog Walking and Pet sitting, Canine First Aid and Animal Psychology.

Remember, if it’s too hot for your hands or your bare feet, then it’s too hot for their paw pads! ⚠️

If you’re unsure whether it’s okay to let your pet go for a walk on pavements, a simple way to test the temperature is by holding your bare skin on the tarmac for five seconds ⏱️

If you find it painful, then your pet will find it painful to walk on!

To protect your pet, it’s best to avoid walks during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 8am and 6pm. If you can't safely exercise your dog, missing a day won't hurt.

I’ll let you into a little secret 🤫

When a new dog comes to walk with me the first thing I do is play a little game to establish excellent recall and focus.

The game is called ‘Ready’ and is a very simple game! Whenever I say the word ‘Ready’ I wait for eye contact and then scatter treats. After a few goes the dog realises that this word means instant reward 100% of the time. Unlike when you use your dogs name which can be for other reasons, this codeword if used correctly can recall your dog to me much quicker and with better results! It also means I can recall multiple dogs with one word rather than shouting lots of names😁

This game works with most of my doggies unless they aren’t particularly treat oriented🤷‍♀️

Why not give it a go at home to see if you get an instant reaction! But remember, you must reward with a treat to keep that word a positive one for your dog 🐶
