Look at this gorgeous girl! I had such a lovely time sitting Scampi, she was an absolute angel.

- Are you going away this summer and need someone you can trust to look after your dog?
- Is your dog happier staying at home rather than going to kennels?
- Does your dog have specific needs, require extra care, or show behaviours that need to be understood by someone who truly gets them?

My in‑home dog sitting service keeps your dog relaxed, comfortable, and in their normal routine while you’re away.

As a Clinical Animal Behaviourist, I understand your dog’s emotional needs and any complex behaviours they may display, offering an extra level of care and insight that goes into every sit.

With in‑home dog sitting, your dog receives one‑to‑one attention tailored to their behaviour and emotional needs — no kennels, no noise, no unfamiliar dogs. Just a calm, familiar environment that reduces stress. Perfect for senior dogs, rescues, reactive dogs, or those needing medication or behavioural support.

I’m fully insured, first‑aid trained, DBS checked, and a Clinical Animal Behaviourist, so you can feel confident your dog is receiving knowledgeable, compassionate care.

During each booking, I stay in your home and provide food, water, walks (where appropriate), playtime, companionship, and behaviour‑informed support for puppies, seniors, or dogs with specific needs. Your home is respected, your dog’s routine is followed, and you’ll receive regular updates and photos so you can relax while you’re away.

And it’s not just dogs, I’m experienced with cats and parrots too, ensuring they receive the same compassionate, knowledgeable care.

If you’re going away soon and need a trusted dog sitter, book your free meet and greet today.

If you have been working on settle training at home and want to see what it looks like in real life, this session with Buttons is a great example.
We went to a cafe we had been to before, and I chose a quiet corner to make it easier for her to relax. As soon as we sat down, I put her mat on the floor and gave her a chew. Chewing helps lower arousal, and pairing it with the mat teaches her that this is her calm place to switch off.
Because she has already practised settling at home, this trip was about helping her use the same skill in a busier space. She spent the first ten minutes enjoying her chew, then wandered a little to seek attention. Instead of engaging, I stayed neutral and waited for her to choose to lie back down on her mat.
She went back to her mat and settled again without any prompting. From there, she lay quietly and watched the cafe, and eventually relaxed enough to fall asleep.
Finishing the session while she was calm helped reinforce the behaviour and showed her that this relaxed state is what we are aiming for.
This is what real life settle training looks like: setting your dog up for success, giving them the tools to relax, and allowing them to make calm choices on their own.

If you’re tired of your dog constantly being “on the go,” settle training might be the missing piece.
Dogs aren’t born knowing how to relax, it’s a skill we have to teach. A settle helps your dog lower their arousal, slow their breathing, and shift into a calmer state. Over time, this becomes a habit, not just a trained behaviour.
Teaching your dog to settle doesn’t just create calm moments. It reduces overall stress, helps them feel more in control, and makes them less reactive in day‑to‑day life. It also builds impulse control, instead of reacting to every sound or movement, they learn to pause, think, and choose calm behaviour.
It’s not flashy, but it’s one of the most powerful foundations you can give your dog.

We are often taught that dog training is all about giving commands at every turn. But real life moves faster than we do. If your dog spots a bird or another dog before you notice, they will not always have a cue to rely on. If they have only ever learned to act after being told what to do, they are far more likely to chase simply because nothing interrupted that impulse.

Giving dogs safe opportunities to pause, assess, and make their own decisions helps them build impulse control and self regulation. This does not mean letting them run after whatever has caught their attention. It means giving them the chance to make the right choice before we need to step in.

Rowan shows this beautifully here. She spots a bird and then another dog across the field. She loves to run towards birds and she loves to say hello to other dogs. If she had chosen to go after either of them, I would have recalled her, but I wanted to give her a moment to think first. Instead of reacting, she paused, watched, and then chose to keep walking and come back to me on her own.

That choice is where the real learning happens. It is how dogs develop calmer reactions, better decision making, and stronger impulse control and self regulation over time. And this is exactly what we are aiming for. We want dogs who can choose the correct behaviour by themselves. We set the foundation by teaching skills like recall and rewarding good choices, and then we give them opportunities to put those skills into practice on their own.

If this is something you are struggling with, I am here to help. I offer one to one training and training walks to support you and your dog with exactly this kind of real life learning. You can follow the link in my bio to my website to find out more.

This recent weather change here In WV that went from below freezing temperatures to the 50s has really started to trigger some of the birds.

So here is your reminder.

Hormonal behavior is not “attitude.”
It is biology reacting to light cycles, temperature shifts, routine changes, and stimulation levels.

When seasons shift, so do they.

You may notice:
• More territorial behavior
• Faster escalation to biting
• Increased vocalization
• Nesting behaviors
• Over-bonding to one person

This is when structure matters most.

✔ Protect sleep (10–12 hours uninterrupted)
✔ Reduce sugary and warm mushy foods
✔ Keep routines consistent
✔ Short, structured out-of-cage sessions
✔ No petting below the head/neck
✔ Respect body language immediately

Do not punish hormones.
Manage the environment.

A regulated routine protects the bird AND your family.

Stay calm. Stay consistent. Stay confident.
