Dearest Gentlefolk,
It has come to my attention that Mother informed the household I would be receiving “a couple of canine visitors” this weekend.
How charmingly understated.
The first has now arrived, and I must clarify: this was no mere social call. This was a full-scale inspection by what can only be described as Canine Security Enforcement.
Sam the German Shepherd entered with great authority, promptly surveyed the perimeter, issued silent but firm advisories to the neighbouring dogs through the fence, and proceeded to consume what I can only assume was approximately half the North East’s water supply.
He then discovered the garden pool.
A most troubling development.
The pool, I regret to inform you, is currently empty.
This has been received with visible disappointment and a level of judgement I would usually associate with aristocratic parents witnessing an unsuitable engagement. He has spent a significant proportion of the morning staring into it, deeply offended, and has even attempted what can only be described as “self-filling operations,” which were unsuccessful but highly determined.
I understand remedial garden arrangements are now being expedited to avoid further complaint being filed with management.
Despite this, he has settled with impressive entitlement: curtains drawn for optimal shade, fan positioned for maximum comfort, water replenished with alarming frequency, and the unmistakable energy of a creature who believes he has inherited the estate.
As for myself, I remain composed, gracious, and entirely deserving of recognition for permitting this most audacious of takeovers.
Yours in exhausted elegance,
Oscar
