Do you feel like you went to bed with a puppy and woke up with a teenager? 😅

If you're currently living with:
• selective hearing

• overexcitement
• poor recall
• endless energy
• or a dog who seems to have forgotten everything they've ever learned...

you're not alone.

🚫 Crate Training Isn’t About Locking Your Dog Away

One of the biggest misconceptions about crate training is that it’s simply putting your dog in a cage and hoping they get used to it.

Done properly, a crate becomes something very different: a safe, comfortable space your dog chooses to relax in.

Think of it as your dog’s bedroom, not a punishment.

🐾 Introduce the crate gradually and allow your dog to explore it at their own pace.

🐾 Create positive associations with food, enrichment, toys and calm interactions.

🐾 Slowly build duration so your dog learns that being in the crate predicts comfort and relaxation, not stress.

The goal isn’t to teach a dog to tolerate the crate.

The goal is to help them feel secure enough to enjoy it.

When introduced correctly, crates can support:
✔️ Puppy training
✔️ Settling and relaxation
✔️ Safe travel preparation
✔️ Recovery after injury or surgery
✔️ Independence skills

Remember: crate training should always be a positive experience, never a punishment.

A dog that loves their crate wasn’t forced to accept it — they were taught that it’s a safe place to be.

Another busy day with some brilliant dogs 🐾✨

• Joey spent some time working on his bird-chasing tendencies. He’s an ambitious boy and definitely has opinions about where birds should and shouldn't be! 🐦😂

• Thor had his first trip into Ross, and it was lovely to spend some time building his confidence in a new environment. He took it all in so well.

• Barney continued with his recall practice, building on all the fantastic progress he’s been making recently.

• Buddy & Minnie enjoyed a nice walk, and we spent some time discussing future plans and the next steps for their training journey.

• Monty had a brilliant session watching children play football, and most importantly... not going for the ball! ⚽ This is a huge skill for him, and he handled it beautifully.

Lots of little wins, lots of learning, and lots of dogs doing brilliantly 💛

Nobody asked for this, Odie and Rocco gave their opinions anyway.

I've spent so much time working with dogs, and somehow these two still think they're qualified to dish out life advice.

Unfortunately, they're very confident about it.

And be honest... what's the best advice your dog would give?

Barney Doodle had an extra challenge during his recall session today! Not only did he have to recall away from one dog, but two! The beautiful yellow Labrador smelt our chicken and decided she wanted to join the training session too 😂You can almost see the internal struggle in Barney's face... "This is mighty difficult."

But despite the added challenge, he did brilliantly. These real-life moments are where all the training starts to come together, and Barney is making such fantastic progress.

Such a good boy 💛

A brilliant couple of days with some wonderful dogs 🐾✨

• Molly has struggled a little with the heat, so we took things at her pace and continued working on greetings with people. She's doing really well, and is looking forward to her pressure-free play date with Rocco. What could possibly go wrong when two chocolate Labs are told to let loose?! 🤎🤎

• Thor had his first session! It was great to see where he needs a little extra support. We introduced some engagement techniques and started building his confidence.

• Frankie is still just a baby, so we headed to the lake and let him take in the world at his own pace. Sometimes the best thing you can do is let puppies observe and learn.

• Barney also enjoyed some time at the lake. No pressure, no expectations, just allowing him to watch the world go by and process his environment. Such important skills for dogs who need a bit more time to take everything in.

• Köpek & Koira got a little split mention this week. Koira stayed at home, but he's recently celebrated his first birthday, so he definitely deserved a shout out! 🎉 Meanwhile, Köpek has been working on his loose lead skills and did brilliantly.

Lots of happy dogs, lots of progress, and lots of reasons to smile 💛

🚨 Dachshunds and slip leads? Absolutely not.

One of the most common pieces of advice Dachshund owners still hear is to use a slip lead when their dog pulls.

For most dogs, I wouldn’t recommend it. For Dachshunds, I feel even more strongly.

These little dogs may be full of confidence and personality, but they’re built very differently. Their long backs and short legs make them particularly vulnerable to spinal issues, including Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD).

If your Dachshund is pulling on the lead, the question shouldn’t be:

“How do I stop the pulling?”

It should be:

“Why is my dog pulling in the first place?”

Are they overwhelmed?
Are they excited?
Are they worried?
Are they trying to get away from something?
Are they simply never been taught loose lead walking?

Training starts with understanding the reason behind the behaviour, not applying more pressure to suppress it.

A well-fitted Y-shaped harness helps distribute pressure evenly across the body, supports natural movement, and reduces unnecessary strain on delicate necks and spines.

Your Dachshund doesn’t need a harsher tool.

They need support, understanding, and training that works with their body, not against it.

A great start to my week so far! 🐾✨

• Ziggy had her first session, where we started introducing some engagement techniques and building those foundations.

• Paddington spent some time doing independent work to help build up his confidence and encourage him to make his own choices.

• Luna also had her first session, and we spent time observing some of her triggers and understanding how she's feeling in different situations.

• Dexter is one of a small number of chosen clients helping me trial my new 1:1 scent work programme, which is incredibly exciting!

Lots of lovely dogs, lots of progress, and plenty to look forward to 💛

Yeah, my dogs get it wrong too 😂
