Slow feed hay nets can help reduce hay being pulled, trampled or blown around the paddock while also encouraging a steadier feed rate. Love seeing these beautiful brumbies enjoying their setup in the fresh air β˜€οΈ

🌾 BENEFIT #8: Natural Protection Against Stomach Ulcers 🌾

When a horse chews, sodium bicarbonate is naturally released in their saliva. That bicarbonate buffers stomach acid. So more chewing = more natural protection against ulcers!! How incredible is that?! 🐴 🀯

When horses go hours without forage, that buffering STOPS and stomach acid keeps right on working on an empty gut. Slow feeding keeps them chewing, keeps that saliva flowing, and keeps acid in check! βœ…

Stomach ulcers are WAY more common than most of us think. Something as simple as consistent fibre access can make such a difference. 🌾

🌾 BENEFIT #7: Better Management for Laminitic & IR Horses 🌾

This one is SO important for anyone managing a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance, Cushing's, or EMS. πŸ™

Periodic feeding creates insulin spikes. A big feed twice a day sends blood sugar surging and for a metabolically compromised horse, that is the LAST thing we want! Slow, consistent access to low-sugar hay keeps those levels steady and removes that cycle entirely!

And here's something that often surprises people , starvation is NOT the answer. 🌾

All of this is covered in detail in our blog article πŸ“© https://gutzbusta.co.uk/blogs/gutzbusta-hay-nets-blog/13-benefits-of-slow-feeding

🌾 BENEFIT #6: Calmer Herds, Less Aggression 🌾

This is one of my FAVOURITE things that our customers tell us, and it never gets old!!
When the hay nets go in and stay filled, the herd dynamic changes. 😌

When food is in constant supply, that desperate, anxious energy disappears. There's no competition because there's no scarcity. Every horse knows there is ALWAYS something to eat, and that security changes EVERYTHING!! 🌾

If the hole size you’ve got isn’t quite right, you can always double bag it. Using two hay nets together is an easy way to slow intake a bit more, without having to change your whole setup. πŸŒΎπŸŽπŸ‘

🌾 BENEFIT #5: Vet-Recommended 🌾

πŸ˜” Insulin resistance, Stomach ulcers and Stall vices are some of the most common and most heartbreaking challenges we deal with as horse owners, and slow feeding helps with ALL of them!

Keeping consistent forage in your horse's gut supports digestive health, reduces colic risk, helps regulate weight, and takes the stress out of those long gaps between feeds. 🌾

It's why so many vets now recommend slow feed hay nets as part of the management plan. πŸ™

Our blog goes into all of this in SO much more detail. πŸ“© https://gutzbusta.co.uk/blogs/gutzbusta-hay-nets-blog/13-benefits-of-slow-feeding

Fiona recently switched to our Small Knotless Hay Nets and has been loving the softer feel and practical sizing for everyday feeding. 🌾🐴

β€œThe size is absolutely perfect for the biscuits of hay we put in each day and night.”

Our knotless hay nets are designed with a softer material that many horse owners prefer, especially for horses spending long periods feeding from nets πŸ’š

Thanks so much for the lovely feedback Fiona!

🌾 BENEFIT #4: Reduces the Risk of Choke 🌾

I've never personally experienced it with my horses, but the thought alone is enough to make your heart stop. When a horse gorges, pulling out big mouthfuls and rushing through their hay the risk goes up significantly.

With a slow feed hay net, particularly in the smaller holes sizes, horses simply cannot pull out large mouthfuls. For horses with a history of choke, that's not just a convenience, it's an ESSENTIAL part of their management!! 🌾

🌾 BENEFIT #3: Slows the Rate of Consumption 🌾

Every horse is different! You've got your Equine Labrador who basically inhales the hay without taking a breath πŸ˜‚ and then you've got an oldie who chews 40+ times before swallowing a single mouthful! Both are beautiful, but both need a completely different approach.

This is exactly why we have SO many hole sizes, because what works for one horse doesn't necessarily work for another. 🌾
