When a horse chews, sodium bicarbonate is naturally released in their saliva. That bicarbonate buffers stomach acid. So more chewing = more natural protection against ulcers!! How incredible is that?! 🐴 🤯

When horses go hours without forage, that buffering STOPS and stomach acid keeps right on working on an empty gut. Slow feeding keeps them chewing, keeps that saliva flowing, and keeps acid in check! ✅

This one is SO important for anyone managing a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance, Cushing's, or EMS. 🙏

Periodic feeding creates insulin spikes. A big feed twice a day sends blood sugar surging and for a metabolically compromised horse, that is the LAST thing we want! Slow, consistent access to low-sugar hay keeps those levels steady and removes that cycle entirely!

And here's something that often surprises people , starvation is NOT the answer. 🌾

I've never personally experienced it with my horses, but the thought alone is enough to make your heart stop. When a horse gorges, pulling out big mouthfuls and rushing through their hay the risk goes up significantly.

With a slow feed hay net, particularly in the smaller holes sizes, horses simply cannot pull out large mouthfuls. For horses with a history of choke, that's not just a convenience, it's an ESSENTIAL part of their management!! 🌾

Every horse is different! You've got your Equine Labrador who basically inhales the hay without taking a breath 😂 and then you've got an oldie who chews 40+ times before swallowing a single mouthful! Both are beautiful, but both need a completely different approach.

This is exactly why we have SO many hole sizes, because what works for one horse doesn't necessarily work for another. 🌾
