Aimed to help educate people and change perceptions that Veterinary Nurses don't just hold puppies all day🐶🍼
Veterinary nurses are highly skilled professionals, who carry out rigorous training and education to gain their qualification, abide by the RCVS Code of Conduct, and continually undertake CPD to keep up to date with the latest evidence based practice. We work alongside Vets to provide the highest standard of care to your pets. Whilst we answer phones and clean, we also;
🐾Monitor anaesthetics
🐾Take and process radiographs
🐾Calculate and administer medication and IV fluid therapy
🐾Take and process blood samples
🐾Place IV cannulas
🐾Sedate under vet direction, intubate and prep your pet for surgery
🐾Scrub in to assist the vet in a range of surgeries, from routine neuters, to orthopedics to an emergency caesarean section
🐾Carry out minor Schedule 3 surgical procedures under vet direction
🐾Closely monitor your pets recovery post-operatively
🐾Inpatient care such as feeding, medicating, exercising, monitoring vital signs and reporting any changes to the vet
🐾Urinary catheters and surgical wound drains
🐾Administer blood transfusions
🐾Wound care, from simple dressings to casting broken limbs
🐾Dental scaling and polishing
🐾Nasogastric/oesophageal feeding tubes
🐾Emergency triage/CPR
🐾Neonatal resuscitation
🐾Hand rearing puppies and kittens
🐾Parasite control/prevention
🐾Prepare prescriptions
🐾Nutrition
🐾Euthanasia and bereavement counselling
🐾Stock control, ordering and processing insurance claims
🐾Teach students
