FOMO is a default feature that comes inbuilt with every spaniel.

This means you can forget privacy and get used to have a helper you didn't know you needed, but it also makes spaniels EASY to train and connect with (if you know how).

Start with creating FOMO in your play, because play is your most powerful way to build connection and focus anywhere.

The thing is, they don't want you to take their precious thing away.

If that's what they expect to happen, they may decide that it's better to keep away.

Take the conflict about the Thing away during retrieves and instead of rushing to get it off them, make it fun/pleasurable to be close to you.

Meanwhile, train delivery to hand separately, as a standalone skill, away from retrieves.

Take time combining the two things.

Monday Spaniel Training Task 🐾

This week we're back to engagement games and cute tricks. This is called the Leg Weave and you can add it to your heeling practice to make it more fun.

If you're using a lead, you'll need to drop it on the ground when safe or use a long lead and shake it off with each step.

This week we're playing the Sweep Up.

It's a multi-retrieve game that will help fulfill your spaniel's breed-specific needs and talents, utilise their nose and exercise their body, sharpen their commitment to task and responsiveness to you around distractions.

This solution works for most unwanted spaniel behaviours.

This week we're doing Spin in Heel.

Its a fun trick to add to your heel to make heeling more fun, to warm up your dog mentally and physically and to improve your dog's heel position.

1) Nose Magnet with heel hand: circle in front of you. Clickpoint: dog is 3/4 though the circle. Pay in front of you the same as starting position.

2) as above but Air Food, empty hand loads the food on completion of circle. Clickpoint as above.

3) as above but in heel. Clickpoint can now be back in heel position

4) add cue: word > hand motion. Rest as above

5) as above but in slow heel
