Ovarian problems are very common in reptiles, from giant tortoises to teeny geckos! We saw Yamori, a leopard gecko, as an emergency referral from an out of hours clinic who were not confident dealing with complex reptile cases. She had imaging and surgery carried out here the same day and we are pleased to report that she is doing very well. We're sure she feels lighter having had nearly 20% of her body weight removed as retained, degenerated ovarian follicles!

Even wallabies get toothache!
This wallaby had a swollen jaw, had lost her appetite and was feeling very sorry for herself. Her keepers were concerned that she might have 'lumpy jaw', a very serious and aggressive bacterial infection that is highly contagious and very hard to treat.
Xrays showed that fortunately that wasn't the cause of her pain but she did have a nasty infection at the base of one of her incisor teeth that had developed into a large abscess. The tooth was loose and had lost its attachment to the bone and its blood supply so removal was the only option. The problem tooth was extracted, samples collected for antibiotic testing, pain relief and intravenous fluids given, and a stomach tube passed to allow us to give her a good meal. She was allowed to wake up under close supervision then returned home to continue her recovery while being given finely chopped food and plenty of treats until her mouth is less sore 🦷🦘🥗

Sometimes we have some simpler cases to treat and these can be just as rewarding!
This handsome chap is a Ground cuscus, a marsupial closely related to possums. He has an old, healed injury that means his nails grow at a slight angle and don't wear evenly. When they get long enough that they start to get in his way he has a pedicure to keep his nails from putting pressure on his toes. He doesn't necessarily appreciate this care but it keeps him climbing comfortably!

2 years of Evolution!
It's amazing to realise we've been up and running for a whole two years now. It's been a rollercoaster and we want to thank everyone who has supported us and made this practice such a success so quickly! We have some incredible clients who have been with us from day 1 and had faith that we would make this work ❤
The next year is going to bring so much more as the practice expands again, new supporting ventures develop, the farm grows, and we add to our staff to help us meet the ever increasing need for high level 24/7 care for exotic animals

Pansy has been a sweetheart in the hospital, and had zero hesitation tucking into food after surgery which always makes us happy! Top marks to Jason too for keeping her company during her stay ❤

An evening of lecturing in America!
Marie has three lectures to give tonight on pain relief in birds and small mammals, and blood sampling in exotics. These are as part of the IAAHPC virtual conference for vets providing in home and palliative care and it's great to see an exotic animal stream featuring this year 🦅🦜🐀🐇🐢🐍
