Keep your dogs safe in this heat! All walks this week will be rescheduled to earlier or will be pop ins ๐๐ผ
๐ก๏ธ Heatstroke in Dogs โ What to Watch For This Week๐ถ
Itโs heating up, and dogs overheat way faster than we do as they canโt sweat it out like we can, so a walk can turn dangerous quickly.
Signs of heatstroke:
โข Heavy panting that wonโt settle
โข Bright red gums or tongue
โข Drooling more than usual
โข Wobbly legs or collapse
โข Vomiting
โข Confused or glassy-eyed look
If you spot any of this, get them into shade, offer water, and call your vet straightaway. Donโt wait to see if it passes.
Keeping dogs safe this week:
โข Walk early morning or evening, when the grounds had time to cool
โข Pavement test: if itโs too hot for your hand for 5 seconds, itโs too hot for paws
โข Always carry water on walks (you should be doing this all year anyway!)
โข Stick to shaded routes (like wooded areas)
โข Never leave a dog in a car, even a few minutes can be fatal
โข Flat-faced breeds, older dogs, and overweight dogs overheat fastest so please go easier on them
Please keep your dogs safe
