π HUGE shoutout to Elise and Swift! π
We are absolutely thrilled to share the incredible journey of this amazing team in our Hoopers classes. Swift's story is a powerful reminder of what patience, dedication, and teamwork can achieve.
When Elise first contacted us, she was worried Swift would never be able to join a class. Swift had a challenging start, having to pivot away from a Flyball career due to significant physical issues, including treated bilateral shoulder tendon tears (subscapularis), mild hip dysplasia, and a lumbar disc issue. None of these were caused by Flyball but it did mean swift had to retire, however with the all clear from the vets and physio Elise and Swift were able to look at hoopers as an option. The issues however had sadly led to Swift associating dogs with pain and becoming reactive.
Elise's commitment was inspiring from day one. She came to view the class first, then Swift started simply watching from a distance, slowly associating that dogs aren't scary and good things happen when they're around.
Building on that foundation, week after week, at Swift's pace, she integrated into the group. From just one hoop at a time to... well, watch the video! Swift is now confidently taking part in the full class, working happily while other dogs are around! π€©
This milestone wouldn't have been possible without the patience and support of:
πΎ Elise, for her tireless dedication.
πΎ Our amazing trainers.
πΎ The incredibly supportive class members who gave Swift the space she needed.
Swift's success highlights how Hoopers is a fantastic, low-impact sport thatβs perfect for dogs with physical concerns (like Swiftβs), helping them build confidence and a brilliant bond with their owner.
Way to go, Elise and Swift! You are an inspiration! π
